The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) on Wednesday said there was nothing wrong in the appointment of Lauretta Onochie, one of President  Muhammadu Buhari's media aides, as a national commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The appointment has generated widespread criticisms from Nigerians who believed that it is partisan and unconstitutional.

However, speaking in a chat with Daily Independent, Yekini Nabena, Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the APC said the party will not succumb to the cheap blackmail orchestrated by the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Nabena who gave instances of PDP men who are currently in INEC said what is good for the PDP is also good for the APC.

According to him the current INEC National Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu is also a card carrying member of PDP.

He said "We are very comfortable with her appointment. The INEC Commissioner in Cross River, Mike Igini, is he not a PDP man? The INEC spokesman, is he not a PDP man? So, what are they talking about?" 

"All these cheap blackmail by PDP is not going to work. As a party, we are comfortable with the appointment".

"Even the current INEC chairman was a PDP man. Was he not recruited from Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund)? Let us face the facts and stop the cheap blackmail being sponsored by the PDP. We are not going to succumb to their cheap blackmail. That is the reality" he said .

Just so you know, Lauretta the drunk is a card-carrying member of the APC as records shows from Ward 5 Onicha Olona, Aniocha North Local Government Area of Delta state, which made her nomination a clear violation of paragraph 14 of the 3rd schedule of the 1999 Constitution (as amended)

How is the current INEC chairman a PDP member when we all saw what happened during 2019 elections, APC with their lies are preparing hard towards 2023 to rig themselves in again. APC is worse than PDP by far.

The appointment of Lauretta Onochie as INEC commissioner is deliberate because there is no way even APC senators will clear her, let alone their PDP colleagues. However, I believe there is a script being played out and Lauretta is a mere catalyst.

You have not provided any details by mentioning her ward and local government. What is her APC membership number? I will also like to see a copy of her APC membership card.

The law says that before you can become an INEC Commissioner, you must be qualified to be a member of the House of representatives. which means you must be a member of a party.

These APC members are even more foolish than I earlier thought.

Their hometown ward and local government of course. That’s not rocket science now. Anybody that intend to trace their party membership details will simply go to their ward and local government.
