Disclosing this during an interview on BBC Hausa, the retired police commissioner stated that the police unit has acted differently from its founding objectives.

Fulani Kwajafa, the police officer who formed the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, has said he regrets creating the now disbanded police unit.

Speaking further during the interview, Kwajafa added that the disheartening news he’s been receiving has made him think there are armed robbers among the new crop of SARS operatives.

In his words, “My name is Fulani Kwajafa. I entered the Nigeria Police Force in 1984. Then robbery was prevalent, this was why Buhari was Head of State. He (Buhari) got a lot of complaint that people were stealing from each other, robbing people — he told me and Mr Inyang, the then IGP, that we must do something about it or be fired.
