#END SARS PROTESTS.
RIVERS YOUTHS PROTESTED TO THE POLICE HEADQUARTERS, SEEKING GOVERNMENTS’ IMMEDIATE INTERVENTION ON THEIR DEMANDS.


The Commissioner of Police, CP Joseph G. Mukan psc (+) today 20/10/2020 at separate times addressed two Youth bodies from the State numbering over 15,000 that protested to the Headquarters.
The Demands presented to CP include:-
The immediate disbandment of SARS.
Justice for all deceased victims of Police brutality and appropriate compensation for their families.
Setting up of an independent body to oversee the investigation and prosecution of all reports of Police misconduct.
Psychological evaluation and re-training (to be confirmed by an independent body) of all disbanded SARS Officers before they can be redeployed.
Increase Police salary so that they are adequately compensated for protecting the lives and property of citizens.
2. Making the presentation on behalf of the concerned Youths of Rivers State, the spokesperson among other things, noted that some enemies of their tomorrow had sponsored some bandits and thugs to attack them which had led to loss of lives and property for which they were accusing SARS. He accordingly appealed to the Youths to leave the Streets and allow the Governments at various levels to address their genuine concerns, while appealing to the Governments to set up processes and take practical steps to address their demands.
3. Responding, the CP thanked and commended them for their peaceful disposition, noting that Protest was their fundamental Rights, especially when organized in a civilized and decent manner. He assured them of Police protection at all times and warned against allowing unscrupulous persons to infiltrate their ranks and cause mayhem.

The CP lastly promised to deliver their respective demands to the appropriate quarters for necessary action.

The two separate Protests were all the same peaceful and the Youths have all gone home peaceably, as the security situation is under close watch.
