The govs visit to the prison after the orgy of violence in the state which was a precedent to spate of violence all over the country is indeed a medicine after death effort. With his ultimatum he gave to the prisoners to return voluntary after 48 hrs.The gov is the most incompetent gov ever in the crisis like Nero ,he obaseki fiddled while Benin burnt. Am surprized that the so called citizens who vote him enmass and claimed to like his style of governance could spill so much violence in the city. if really he was as liked as claimed Edo state ENDSARS protests was supposed to be the most peacefull and well organized.But this was the opposte as the it was the state that violence first erupted with the burning of police stations ,freeing of hardened criminals from the two major prisons in the state capital of the likes that raped and killed Uwa,general mayhem round the city ,arson,raping of married women and girls,collection of phones,looting of private shops and all. It was not that security agents even fired a single shot at the protesters who first blocked the federal road BENIN-LAGOS RD that links the east to the west as they set cooking cauldrons on the road and started cooking and merrying. thousand of travelers were stranded for kilometers till nightfall with this development bandits attacked these stranded traveling, raping and predisposing them of their valuables,many were also kidnapped. Before the protests took a such turn, the gov was no were to be found ,despite claiming to be popular he never went round to pacify the protesters to allow travellers to pass and order them to conduct it peacefully or even taking solidarity with them.Then as regards the prison break, prior before hand the comptroller alerted the gov of possible breakdown of law and order preceding to a jail break. As i believe taking clue from the ANTI-SAP riot in 1989 when the prison was also breached by hoodlums in the name of said then riots. the authorities did not do anything. Mind you the govt house is about 10 minutes drive to the prisons so the Benin city Area command, State CID hqs,Edo state police command headquaters,4th mechanized div hq of the Nigerian army and DSS HQ and the Aideyan police station are all a stone throw from the prisons.The gov never took action ,instead he was still carried away with his defeat of his Godfather. The state prior before has been under the seige of Thugs,kidnappers,rapists,armed robbers,agberoes and all,many such thugs were under his payroll these who helped him remove the roof of the State house of Assembly and layed seige of the assembly.Infact the Oba of Benin had to caution his deputy Shaibu to talk to his boys not to unleash terror in their desperation for power.I wonder with the release of such hardened prisoners back to the society the state would brought back to the Anini era.THE GOV with conjuction of the Ministry of Interior should relocate the prisons from the central business district of the state as was done in the case of the Auchi prisons.Its present location is a security threat and sanitation hazard as human wastes from the prison are flushed right into the drainage in a business district.Shame on the administration of Obaseki,would he now blame his Godfather #OBASEKIMUSTGOWITHBUBU
