Is The Police Supposed To Be A 'Force' Or A 'Service'? by HAccord: 11:36am On Oct 23, 2020 |
Is the police supposed to be a 'Force' or a 'Service'? Many years ago, I remember hearing national debates about renaming the police force as 'Nigerian police Service'. A bill was introduced to that effect in the national assembly but I do not know how it panned out. In other advanced climes, the police is called a Department like LAPD, NYPD etc. The SWAT is a unit under the police department. Why shouldn't we adopt same? I believe the police wants to retain the name 'Force' so as to appear intimidating to the citizens they are supposed to serve not that the name makes them more effective in policing. Citizens' intimidation appears to be their forte. Lalasticlala, Seun. What are your thoughts? 1 Like |
