Mattress Warranty: What You Need To Know by Y4all: 10:15am On Oct 27, 2020
A reoccurring question most mattress sellers or dealers are daily confronted with is: does the Dual side mattress has a warranty. What most mattress buyers need is a guarantee on their investment and a warranty gives them the peace of mind that they seek. A mattress warranty is a promise made by a mattress company to its customer, to repair or replace a mattress with defects caused by the mistake of the mattress manufacturer and not directly by the customer. Interestingly, Warranties do not cover mistakes made by the customer but defects as results of the manufacturer’s mistake.

The most common mattress warranty in Nigeria is the written warranty. With a written warranty, a mattress manufacturer or seller provides a written affirmation which promises to replace or fix a defect in line with its stated terms and conditions. For instance, the exclusive mattress has a written warranty of 10years while the dual side mattress has a 5years written warranty.

Although, mattress brands differs in terms of what their warranties covers, but generally, most mattress warranties cover the following physical defects;

Sagging
A common defect easily spotted by mattress users is early sagging or the sinking of a mattress. Unarguably, a mattress may sag after a long period of use or its expected lifespan but when it begins to sag few months into use, then it’s obviously a product defect and your warranty ensures you get a fix or replacement depending on the extent or depth of damaged as specified by the terms and conditions attached to the warranty.

Faulty Seams

Most Mattress manufacturers or sellers also provide warranty for poor finishing’s. This includes undone or loose edges or bad mattress fabric. If such mattress has a warranty, you are sure to get a free rework on the mattress by the manufacturer.

Breaking or Popping Coil
Mattresses made of spring coils are often backed by warranty. This is because the coils might break, bend or pop out of the side if not properly packaged. Remember that a warranty covers the mistake of the manufacturer, so a mistake on the part of the manufacturer that might result in breaking, bending or even popping of the spring coil is fixed by the manufacturer at no expense to the customer.

It is also important to note that the warranty doesn’t cover the comfort of the customer; this includes how well you sleep on it- most mattress companies offer a free sleep trial period to help you determine if your investment is worth it with regards to comfort. However, a defect caused by stain, discoloration due to machine or hand wash, a hole caused by manhandling or personal puncturing, improper support, uneven weight distribution and the likes, is not covered by this warranty but rather categorized as the mistake of the customer, therefore the customer pays for any associated expenses.

To avoid confusion and unnecessary drama, ensure you consider and understand the terms and conditions attached to a warranty before investing in one.
