This is easy. There were pictures of people who climbed it and tried the glasses on, during the protest.

Sparogatively, somebody said the statue now looks like our very own Femi Fani-Kayode, popularly known as FFK.

Well, hoodlums and Looters I hail thee!
Una wan look for our future through the eyes of the dead abi¿

Once again, I hail thee!

I concur...This is not Awolowo. This is Femi Fani Kayode.

Useless youth without focus. It really baffles me the way some Nigerians have hijack this protest for their own selfish and wicked desire.

Unimaginable !!! sad

Taking the eye glass what can you use it to do? The other day a guy in zamfara took its post sign. can anybody tell what he will use that to do?

Very insane people everywhere!! undecided

Modify,

Sorry, Taraba people .

That's the reason why organizing a protest in Nigeria comes with a prize.
We have the lower class of Nigeria who give birth to kids like rats without considering their future, most of this kids go through life like they are dead already the constitute great danger to the development of this nation.these children today lead when it comes to crimes, they are used to manipulate election's.

The hoodlums are political sponsored. Their aim is to discredit the protests and a very good excuse not to grant/allow another protests in the future.

That sign post is not melted down and sold or used to make spoons and other such items. Growing up the length of Lagos/ibadan had dividers but they were all stollen and melted down for scrap

This madness has to stop.

This is sheer wickedness and foolishness

What is the economic and political benefit of stealing or vandalizing the statue

To cause outrage and create breakdown of law and order and instigate a violent overthrow of government.

That was the plan of the protest organizers.

I thought Awolowo was always stern , bitter, severe and unsmiling.

But the sculpture gave him a wintry smile that is just perceptible.

You dont say "youth" next time when you're addressing hoodlums or thugs. When you say youth....its like you abusing us all in general.

As sad as it is, I am blaming any looter. I said a long time ago that Nigeria, and most especially Lagos, is an open air asylum. Nigerian masses have been mentally brutalized to a point that they cannot even make sense of their own actions. It's terrifying. I learn one guy in another state stole a signpost.

Apparently, Awo's labour was in vain.

Thanks to so called leaders that came much later after him. Generation 1999 - current. Leaders are supposed to build on achievement of those before them, rather these destroyers of a leader brought down all the achievements of the leaders that came before them.
