Some of the best horror movies of all time are well documented. Many come to mind, such as Dawn of the Dead, Saw, A Nightmare on Elm Street, Halloween, Rec and the Blair Witch Project.

Here are the scariest undiscovered horror films you probably haven’t heard about. And some of them are so scary even the biggest horror film fans had to watch through their fingers.

Let us know in the comment section below if you have any other suggestions…

1. Hush (2016)

Hush is a low budget American slasher film you can watch on Netflix – but that isn’t to say it isn’t scary.

It’s an intense and absolutely terrifying story which follows a deaf woman who lives in a secluded house in the middle of the woods. With minimal dialogue, prepare to sit on the edge of your seat the whole time.

2. Goodnight Mommy (2014)

The concept of this Austrian psychical horror film sounds truly horrifying in itself.

A mother returns home after undergoing cosmetic surgery, but her twin boys at home don’t recognise her.

With her face wrapped in bandages and distant demeanour, they tie her to the bed to get her to admit she is someone else. A fascinating and suspenseful film guaranteed to get you thinking.

3. Last Shift (2014)

Last Shift follows rookie cop Jessica Loren who is doing her first shift alone in an abandoned police station.

It’s safe to say that it turns into a living nightmare.

One BuzzFeed user and self-proclaimed “horror movie buff” who has a “really hard time being scared” said: “This one honestly scared me.”

4. Pontypool (2008)

Pontypool is a Canadian horror/ psychological thriller about a deadly virus which infects a small town in Ontario.

Radio host Grant Mazzy barricades himself in his radio booth as he hears reports about a virus turning people into zombies. Creepy and suspenseful.

5. God Told Me To (1976)

An oldie but goodie, God Told Me To is a science fiction/horror film written and directed by Larry Cohen.

The film follows a New York police detective who investigates a series of murders committed by New Yorkers who claim God “told them to”.

The plot becomes weirder and weirder, and there are some seriously unsettling scenes.

6. The Banshee Chapter (2013)

The Banshee Chapter is an American horror film about journalist Anne Roland, who looks into the discovers disappearance of a friend, who she believes ingested a secret government chemical.

One BuzzFeed user who said they “cannot be scared by horror movies” said: “The Banshee Chapter was terrifying to me”.

A Rotten Tomatoes user said: “The Banshee Chapter is both elegant and terrifying.”

7. Dying Breed (2008)

Dying Breed is an Australian horror film which is not for the faint hearted – and if you don’t like blood you should probably give it a miss

The slasher film is set in the Tasmanian bush, where a group of zoologists are investigating the existence of the Tasmanian tiger.

They stumble on a community with the taste for human flesh.

There may not be much new about this plot, it’s your classic “group go out to the woods and try to get out without being slaughtered” movie.

But there are great characters and some really creepy scenes.

8. Bone Tomahawk (2015)

Bone Tomahawk is a western cannibal horror film about a sheriff and his deputy who embark on a mission to rescue three people from a savage group of cave dwellers.

One BuzzFeed user said that even though they have a “high tolerance for gore in movies” they had to “watch through my fingers”.

They continued: “Not that it made it any less gruesome, considering how good the sound effects are in this movie. Yikes”.
