Actually the government actually deployed soilders against the protesters and over 167 people have been arrested, plus the Thai government has blocked access to multiple social media websites including change.org(an extremely popular website used for signing petitions) and some facebook pages But if you would rather spend a lifetime under a Dictator than wait 4 years to hold another election then who am I to judge
