To some residents of Offa in Offa Local Government Area of Kwara State these are not happy days as wonder banks disguised as investment companies swindled them of over a billion naira and disappear into the thin air. Daily Sun investigation showed that about five investment companies came to Offa between August and September last year to do business of international trade, FOREX selling of shares in oil and gas sector of the economy unknown to the investors that they were in for hard times.

Investigation revealed that as soon as the companies arrived the city they rented properties as office in choice areas, recruited agents, canvassers and adopted various arm twisting tactics to lure investors to buy slots, promising them 100 per cent profit after 35 working days of their investment.

Narrating his ordeal, a business centre operator in Olomowewe area of Offa, Mr. Ayinla Kolawole, said: “The companies came in September 2010 and they were distributing handbills that they were oil and gas investment companies which require large sum of money as such they need people to buy shares from them and at the end of 35 working days their profit will be 100 per cent of their investment.”
Kolawole lamented that he started with N10,000 and was paid N20,000 .

“This encouraged other people to start investing large sum of money in these companies. But by January and February ending when the date for payment came people started to increase their investment in thousands and millions which later culminated in cash crunch and this infuriated the investors who went in large number to attack the company’s office close to Idi Ogun Garage along Federal Polythenic Offa.”
Wearing a mournful look, Kolawole said he invested over N750,000 but appealed to the government to help them trace the people.

“We know we are at fault but we thought when they have Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) registration number; with e-mail addresses that made many people think they are genuine,” he said.
“As for me, I have taken it as an act of Allah but what of those who cannot bear it. Some of them are in hospital because of the shock while about three died on hearing that the people have disappeared. There was a woman who sold all her belongings including her brother’s landed property. Imagine how she will feel. She is dead.”

Some people in Offa alleged that the Olofa of Offa, His Royal Highness, Oba Mohammed Oloyede knew those companies. However, the Principal Private Secretary to the Olofa, Mr. Tajudeen Oloyede denied the statement, saying; “the palace was sad about the incident that it was after the scam that people informed the palace and if the palace had been informed earlier, the Kabiyesi would have warned the people. The Olofa did not know this people from Adam,” he said.

Oloyede declared that the Oba felt disgusted when he was informed that top security agents in the town were even involved.

cheesy grin grin Yoreobos/ofemanus are good at looting, infact another name for the yoribos is public theft and looting.

To disintegrate nigeria, let the yoribos be the president, VP, ministers, LG chairmen, and all 36 state governors of the federation be only yoribos. Then watch nigeria crumble like a pack of cards!

You are right. How come we never thought of that yet? They will simply steal Nigeria to disintegration.

grin grin grin grin My brother, this is the best way to disintegrate nigeria without war.

To fight war, you need money. If the yoriobos are allowed to loot nigeria dry to the 'bone marrow' any group can then seperate as there will be no money for nigeria to wage war on that particular seceding group. cool
