Social media has proven to be the biggest online and internet-based application that enables its users to create and share content across the globe as well as participate in social networking. The increase in the usage of social media is prompted by the rapid advancement in technology. This has made social media the first( and in most cases, the most) sought-after platform for obtaining information.

The Nigerian Government has been contemplating the regulation of social media for the past two weeks to cover up certain information and to drastically reduce the rate at which that sort of information can be diffused sometime in the future but implementing such will do the economy more harm than good. The government, during the election period, campaign for political offices using a lot of platforms to showcase the candidate for each party and portray them in the most pleasing way to the people.
