Signed Oluwasegun Abifarin Media and Publicity Committee Ilorin, 13th March, 2011 PRESS RELEASE APRIL POLL, A LIBERATION STRUGGLE IN KWARA – DPP GUBER CANDIDATE The Democratic People’s Party, DPP candidate in Kwara State, Hon. Gbenga Olawepo has described next month’s gubernatorial election as a liberation struggle that will bring the much needed season of change in the State. Olawepo ,who was speaking before thousands of party faithful and supporters at the flag-off of his state wide campaign in Ilorin yesterday, explained that the expected change will rebuild the state and transformed it into a modern and prosperous one.” Wind of change is blowing everywhere and Kwara State will not be an exception. The coming election is the biggest opportunity for us in Kwara to break the yoke of poverty, unemployment and ignorance. There is always a time and season for everything under the sun, and the time to say no more slavery and yes to liberation is now. The April poll is a struggle and your vote for DPP is your power of freedom,” Olawepo said amidst cheers from supporters. He recalled that Kwara State was once a prosperous State with large and medium scale industries which employed thousands of Kwarans and non-Kwarans. He therefore promised to break the cycle of poverty in the State by creating 400,000 jobs in four years, through the establishment of agro and oil related industries. The DPP candidate also promised that women and other vulnerable groups will be assisted to become self reliant through the provision of soft and interest-free loans, while salary of civil servants will also be increased. “If we stop stealing and reduce government bloated overheads, there is enough money in Kwara State to take care of the people. For instance, in the 2009 budget estimates, the salary for all Kwara workers was put at about N5 billion, while government overhead was N11.5 billion. Does that make any sense to anybody?” he queried. The party’s chairman, Alhaji Abiodun Usman also presented to the teeming supporters, Alhaji Bashir Lawal, who will Olawepo’s running mate, and other candidates carrying the party’s flag in the poll. Earlier, the Party had inaugurated the campaign committee under the Chairmanship of Alhaji Usman Olesin, while Comrade Lanre Fulani is the Director General. The duo will oversee the four-level campaign structures made up of mobilisation, monitoring, media and organisation services committees. |
