Good or bad, somebody must be involved in politics, if good people run away, then they have no right to complain when bad people take over. However, good people need wisdom from Above to sail the murky waters of Nigerian politics. ” – RKO

As an advocate for good young men and women joining Nigerian politics, nothing gladdens my heart more knowing that Kayode Ajulo, the young Abuja based human rights lawyer will be running for the lone FCT Senate position under the banner of Labour Party, succumbing to the beckon of reason to change the social order.

To say I was elated is an understatement knowing full well how much conscientious Nigerians with genuine altruistic intentions detest involvement in politics because of the general perspective that it is a dirty game that is characterised by violence, intolerance, money politics political assassination and many unbecoming acts; and dominated mostly by men of questionable character.

The political landscape is so filthy because good men and women have abandoned the stage for men and women of little virtue to have a field day. The cleaning of a dirty room must certainly be from the inside. Nigerian youth need to arise for this new social order as they are the real breath of fresh air.

Politics itself is not a dirty game, it is the so called players who really play it dirty. And anyone who is tired of the way our country is being run (or ruin) should set to be involved at a level or the other.

A journey of a thousand miles begins with the first step. Until we are ready to come in and show the old order politicians how it should be done, we may never get it right. The courage of the likes of Ajulo should be applauded for daring to tread the path many have deserted for the professional politicians who hardly have any noble cause, many of whom would not stop at anything to get to the offices.

Since he declared his intention about a fortnight ago on Channels TV, two other young and conscientious Nigerians have indicated their interests in the Senate.

In a statement on how he has inspired a re-awakening of the youths in seeking political offices, he says “It is one of my goals that Senate should not be old people’s home or a place for retirees and pensioners. Nothing should stop us, what we need is to incite ourselves to participate in this electoral process and cease complaining.” At 36, Kayode Ajulo is a cerebral lawyer with an extensive legal practice who has been living in Abuja since his undergraduate days at University of Jos. He is a real son of the soil.

He bagged a Bachelor’s degree in Law (LL.B. (Hons.) at the University of Jos in Nigeria (1999) and was called to the Nigerian bar in 2001. He also obtained his Master’s of Laws degree (LL.M.) in 2006 from the same university.

Ajulo is a member of the Avant Garde International, International Association of Human Rights Lawyers, Nigerian Red Cross, the Nigerian Institute of Management, the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) and International Bar Association (IBA).

He has been in very active advocacy campaign for global good governance and democracy as well being one of the leading voices against corruption, nepotism and injustice in Nigeria.

Ajulo was an executive of Students Union Government and held several positions in the Nigerian Students umbrella body, the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS). He is the Founder/Chairman of the Board of Egalitarian Mission, Africa, a Non-Governmental Organization that is maintaining and promoting the belief that all people are, in principle, equal and should enjoy equal social, political, and economic rights and opportunities.

He also coordinates the activities of Free-A-Prisoner-A-Day (FAPAD) an initiative of Egalitarian Mission, Africa that ensure that at least a prisoner/detainee is released each day.

He has won several international and local awards for his contributions to social justice and rights campaign. And in recognition of this, he was honoured with a prestigious traditional Chieftaincy title of Bamofinlewe of Akure kingdom.

Ajulo was nominated by National Waves Magazine as “The Most Enterprising Young Lawyer in Nigeria in 2009 and Legal Personality of The Year - 2009 by Press Gallery.

Kayode believes that if you believe that all that is necessary for evil to succeed is for good men to do and say nothing, then, you have to do something.

Good luck to Kayode. It is interesting seeing Westerners contesting for elections outside the West.
