Last night I heard gunshots in our estate and I thought it was one of the military generals residing here. Some of them usually release rounds of gunshot when they are around probably to scare criminals.

But I was wrong. This morning, the news started spreading. At first, I couldn't believe it when someone told me that a real estate contractor who shares a fence with us was shot by armed robbers and was rushed to a hospital. But, very soon, everyone was saying it. Just now, I heard that he has given up the ghost in the hospital. I just hope it's not true.

They said his wife reported what one of the armed robbers said. "Oga, do you remember me? I am that boy who worked for you at River Park Estate in 2017 that you said I was too stubborn, that you won't pay me because I was poor and yet proud. So, today, since you didn't want me to work, I'm now a thief and nothing can save you from my hands". According to the report, the guy spoke in clean English suggesting that he is probably a graduate or an intelligent high school leaver. It shows how many of us create criminals by the way we insult people for being poor.

Please, we should try to be fair with everyone in spite of our position. When we are fair, at least, God will fight for us when people try to hurt us unjustly. I'm not supporting people becoming criminals though.

Exactly what I'm thinking. He didn't behave like a professional thief at all. It's clear he was actually forced into it.

which trace? She may not even remember the young man's details anymore. And I am probably sure, the guy doesn't even live within her state anymore.

Most rich people in Nigeria are wicked and oppressive, they treat the poor with utmost disdain and impunity.

I almost arranged hired thugs for one rich idiot like that in Ibadan around 2012, God saved his ass when his friend sensed danger and wielded into the matter instantly and paid me my money with abeg

The robber intentionally visited that house for revenge. In life, treat everyone justly. Do not use people without paying them, that is extremely wicked. As for the armed robber, he should know that as much as the contractor was cruel, the contractor did not want him dead. For him to kill a man, his nemesis is coming very soon.

he was threatening me, he was owing my money after working for him yet, he was the one intimidating me because he was a politician moving around with escort, so he felt he was untouchable.

When he saw the danger of what was about to hit him, he submitted by force

What a life!. He has exposed himself, he will be caught and most likely killed too.

That you were treated poorly unfairly or unjustly doesn't mean you should take the life of another man whose family may never be the same after his death.
If so many people open their mouths to say what they've been through in the hands of superiors, the whole of NL would not be enough to take the comments.
So rather than seek revenge because someone treated you badly or cheated you why not channel that energy into something positive and use that drive to attain success.

In my opinion bad behavior and bad response have no excuse. They are choices we make to either become like the devil or create one.

I hope so. Yet, there are things we just can't wish away. Bad things do happen. And, sometimes, one evil event gives birth to another, just as it is in this case.

When people have power over other people, they tend to forget the basic truth that "NO CONDITION IS PERMANENT".

It pays to be cordial and respectful with even the most downtrodden individuals in our midst. Just as the robbery victim found out the price of his cruelty to the poor when it was too late, others have been spared under similar circumstances, because they had been kind and considerate to those less fortunate in life.

Many moons ago, someone I know found himself staring down the wrong end of a gun, on a lonely night out on the highway. A decision had already been made by a gang of armed robbers that blocked the victim's car, to shoot him dead, as punishment for his crime of having no cash to offer. Guns were cocked, and the victim, resigned to his impending fate, had begun to offer his final prayers to his maker, in preparation for his terminal departure from the mortal realm.

Then, instead of the expected abrupt end to his life, a voice called out, demanding mercy on the victim. Turned out that the man who was moments from violent death, had offered financial assistance to one of the robbers, so long in the past, that the incident was only recalled by the robber, who, on recognizing his benefactor, decided he should live, rather than die on that desolate stretch of road.

Walk softly, fellow travelers along this winding road of life, and whenever you are able, go out of your way to be kind, considerate and merciful, for one day, when you least expect it, the tables may be turned, such that it becomes YOU, so urgently needing the mercy of strangers, in order to live for one more minute, one more day, or one more decade.
