Doctors in the house are in a better position to answer my question. I feel so disgusted writing this and all I can say is, "Nigerian doctors are the worst of all". I had been experiencing severe ear ache and needed to see an ENT (Ear, Nose and Throat) doctor asap. Since I wasn't so familiar with the state, I did some google searches, but couldn't ascertain the address of any ENT specialist that resides there.

My last resort was to go to a Federal Medical Centre only to be told that I couldn't see an ENT doctor on that day, and that I should book an appointment to be seen in two weeks time.

Damn! I felt two weeks was a long time, but since I had no choice, I accepted my fate. Two weeks rolled by and on that day, I went as early as 8:AM only to be told that I was late and I couldn't see the doctor. I was so pissed and challenged the man at the desk cos the doctor hadn't arrived at that time, but came later at 11:AM. Eventually, I was able to see the doctor at 3:PM. Now, here is the main part of the gist.

The ENT Doctor used a 'Tongue Depressor' to examine my throat. He had used it when I realized that, it was the same tongue depressor he used for the other over 50 patients before me.

For the layman who doesn't know what a 'Tongue Depressor' is, it is a tool used mainly by ENT doctors to examine the mouth and throat region.

Although, the doctor used what seemed like methylated spirit to clean it before using it, I felt that wasn't enough as he should have sterilized it or used the disposable type. And to worsen it, this doctor didn't even use hand gloves. I felt gross and shuddered, but at that moment, it was too late to back out.

So, doctors in the house, was cleaning the tongue depressor enough? Wasn't he supposed to have sterilized it or used a disposable type? And to the laymen, would you have walked out on the doctor if you had found yourself in my situation considering the health risk you were being subjected to?
