sujexy:Then you don't have the requisite knowledge to contribute effectively on the subject matter. Little wonder, you interjected ignorantly the way you did. For your information I graduated in a public University and I am not a lecturer. However lecturers are not to be blamed in any way for students staying at home, the government should be held solely responsible. Tell me, you sit on a round table, negotiate, agree and sign a plan of action, then the government will totally renege for no reason, why will there not be unrest. Then, the situation in the universities keeps becoming dire by the day. The public universities are fast becoming like the already killed public primary schools and secondary schools. Government need to live up to its responsibilities and stop all these grandstanding. 1 Like |

zikter: I didn't Interject Ignorantly. I have been aware of what has been Happening between FG and ASUU since 2009. But in all these, the students suffer and keeps suffering. How do you juxtapose the clean intentions of ASUU and the careless action of Government? A member of ASUU is the VP now they can reach out to him for quality negotiation, there are still ways of dealing with this without making the poor students the Boxing Platform. |

sujexy:My point is ASUU is not to take blame. Do you think they have not done all these? Do you know the level of consultation ASUU put on before going on strike? The other day, ASUU president was explaining the pains they go through. From traditional rulers to different levels of politicians to government agencies, all for mediation and nothing works. The only time FG tend to behave as if something is happening is when they strike. With the position of Prof Yemi now, he can no longer be regarded as a member of ASUU, on the contrary he is now a staunch member of the government and politicians. His interest and loyalty is with the government and not the other way round. It is quite unfortunate that our government is so insensitive and understand only strike as a spoken language. It is very unfair that students suffer most in all of these. 2 Likes |

Ceenelly:This a very wrong interpretation of this whole article, the universities most times needs experts in certain fields that it's scarce to find people in. I know of a certain Dr. that retired as a General Manager in one of the IOCs. That man is a living walking encyclopedia of the oil industry, he was already pensioned by the IOC he retired from, so he was employed as a contract staff to impart knowledge on the students and he is also mentoring some of us in the system. And that is just one example in many. So please take it easy. 2 Likes |

sujexy: How can you defend the above assertions? Are you a member of ASUU? Well, I am. And as a member, I have provided the relevant info. Take it or leave it. But no wahala. No need to argue with you. I believe we both want the same thing, namely peace in the universities, ba? It is on its way. When it comes, the identity of the real victims in this matter will become clear. |

zikter:In All sincerity, I know ASUU demands are legit..They deserve their pay for the work they do, so their welfare is paramount. I just feel so bad that Innocent students are caught up in all these. FG is just being uneccassarily difficult, and it is unfair! 1 Like |

proffemi:Don't get me wrong Prof, ASUU members are legitimately fighting for their Right which FG has refused to be positive about. My only annoyance was that students are the ones at the receiving end. I am sorry if my first response sounded Insensitive... |

sujexy: Thanks, I am happy that our views are actually aligned. I have never liked students having to bear the brunt of ASUU-FG face-offs. Believe it or not, a part of me is happy that most lecturers (including me) have not been paid for months because at least, it isn't just the students suffering this time. We can only hope our country gets it right, because guys like me are finally giving serious thoughts to just leaving the whole mess and emigrating. |

Am waiting to see how their own will function, and if they pay less tax, than other workers, then FG need to also reduce the tax of other workers. |

This buhari govt is a joke. So they know there are irregularities in IPPIS and they go ahead with implementing it. Truly they have something to gain from it. A big kudos and bag of weed to the ASUU chairman for the good representation of his vivle. |

jolyment: You are the one that don't know what you are saying. Is it Federal government that will employ for state institutions where most of these lecturers work? It is obviously No Government have their blame but lecturers who do this justify the rationale behind FG insistence on IPPIS. A lecturer that works in a federal University, take excess courses to earn more allowances is not effective in the courses. This same person still goes to two other state University and two of his trained PhD students are jobless. Who is wicked between such person and FG? The issue is that some of the academic staff in the university are more callous that FG if given the authority. They perpetrate a lot of atrocities ranging from multiple earnings, sex for grade, absence from work, use of students to work without pay, plagiarism, favouritism to blackmail of government to actualize their selfish goals. Wé just pray government respond in time so that masses will not bear too much brunt of their inaction. |

oyatainer: The best thing is for state and private universities to employ, but because they need senior lecturers and above, that's why they allow lecturers to teach in their schools, they also want to cost and need lecturers with experience and a particular area of specialization. FG still need to employ lecturers too because some schools need more lecturers. Multiple earnings is part of their conditions of service but should be regulated by NUC. I agreed there's corruption in the system because this is Nigeria. |
