Abuja — Nigeria and Israel have agreed to collaborate to stem the tide of terrorism financing and achieve lasting impacts in the fight against the global scourge.

Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Farida Waziri, disclosed this in Abuja on Thursday when she received Israeli Minister of Public Security, Itshak Aharonovick, Israeli Ambassador to Nigeria, Moshe Ram, and other top Israeli government officials in her office.

Waziri said recent passage of the Anti-Terrorism Bill by the National Assembly has climaxed the readiness of the Federal Government to fight terrorism without looking back, in line with international standards and agreements.

"Government is very serious about checking the menace of terrorism and everything is being done to achieve this," she said, calling for increased collaboration between the EFCC and Israeli government to ensure success of the anti-graft and anti-terrorism wars.

In this regard, she said regular capacity building programmes by Israel for the EFCC operatives would be appreciated and that it might be useful to work towards concluding an MoU with Israeli's National Unit for Financial Crimes.

The EFCC boss explained that the commission has started discussions with some of Israeli law enforcement authorities towards hosting a training programme in Abuja for the anti-graft operatives in the areas of terrorist financing, money laundering, asset tracing and tracking.

In his own remarks, Aharonovick, while explaining the workability of Israeli's criminal and anti-terrorism units, mentioned the rising challenge of ridding the country of crime-prone elements.
