The Catholic Bishop of Georgetown, Most Reverend Francis Alleyne, was robbed and knocked on the head by a man of unsound mind while celebrating mass at the Brickdam cathedral in Guyana.

The man of unsound mind who was armed with a sharp object in his left hand, walked up to the Bishop who stood at the altar with a deacon during consecration.

He first threw away the chalice cover before removing the Bishop’s ring and chain without any form of resistance by the clergy and the deacon.

The attacker went on to slap the Bishop at the back of his head before walking off with the Roman Missal.

Brickdam Cathedral, formally known as the Cathedral of Immaculate Conception, is the leading Roman Catholic in the Caribbean country of Guyana.

The entire incident was streamed Live on the Cathedral’s Facebook Live streaming page.
