A chieftain of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Dr. Garus Gololo, has described as "childish politics", the press briefing of the Ebonyi National Assembly Caucus, wherein Governor Dave Umahi was disowned for leaving his party.

The Ebonyi Federal Lawmakers had Wednesday afternoon, while addressing newsmen, distanced themselves from the defection of Governor Umahi from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC.

Speaking through their leader and former Governor of the State, Senator Sam Egwu, the Ebonyi PDP National Assembly caucus had said Governor Umahi was the greatest beneficiary of PDP's patronage in the state, adding that he should have been grateful to the party.

But Gololo, while responding to the lawmakers' position, said it amounts to childish politics for anyone to think that the Governor had no right to associate with any group or political party of his choice.

Gololo stressed that, Umahi had done, under 5 years, what Senator Egwu or other former Governors could not achieve for years in Ebonyi.

"That one called Sam Egwu was there for 8 years, what did he do during his tenure? Go to Abakiliki and environs now and see how Umahi has transformed the entire place like Abuja.

"His (Umahi's) defection to APC is a big plus for us. We have caught a big fish and the PDP can't even get crayfish. That's why they are angry. But they can't do anything about it.

"They are angry that, before President Buhari came, it was 4 PDP Governors in the 5 States of the South East with no APC at all. But now, we have 2 Governors from there, the PDP has only 2 while APGA is in control of 1 state", Gololo said.

The APC chieftain called on Senator Egwu and other lawmakers in National Assembly, to toll the line of Governor Umahi, "who has seen the light, and make the people of Ebonyi feel the impulse of federal presence".

When asked if he would support Governor Umahi for presidency in 2023, Dr. Gololo said "2023 is in the hand of God", stressing that, his joy was that the Ebonyi Governor was one of the best in South East and that he is now a member of APC.
