President Muhammadu Buhari has blamed the country’s current slide into worst economic recession since 1987 on COVID-19 pandemic.

The President said this while declaring open the 26th Nigerian Economic Summit themed “Building Partnerships for Resilence”.

President Buhari who was represented by Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo, said that the decline in the nation’s Gross Domestic Product came after 12 succesive quarters of positive growth.

We all know this is so true. The developed countries like UK, USA, Germany, France etc have been in recession since, talking about more than three months ago.

*RECESSION* is a business cycle contraction when there is a general decline in economic activity. Recessions generally occur when there is a widespread drop in spending (an adverse demand shock). This may be triggered by various events, such as a financial crisis, an external trade shock, an adverse supply shock, the bursting of an economic bubble, or a large-scale anthropogenic or natural disaster (e.g. a pandemic like COVID19).

Many countries of the world entered recession due to Covid19 pandemic, but with the help of FG through different initiatives, I see Nigeria coming out already.
