Kano 2020: North-West APC Organises Maiden Youth Football Tournament


The All Progressives Congress (APC) , North-west zone has concluded all arrangements to organise its maiden Youth Football Tournament with theme; Sport Development and Youth Empowerment in Northern
Nigeria.

The tournament tagged : APC Unity Football Cup,Kano 2020 according to the Office of the APC National Youth Leader (North West) , is first-of-its-kind Zonal Youth Football Tournament with a Symposium title: YOUTH AND WOMEN LEADER SYMPOSIUM.


Comrade Abubakar Sadiq Saadu ,the APC Zonal Youth Leader (North West) in a press statement made available to journalists today said, " Sports has the power to change the world. It has the power to unite in a way that little else does. It speaks to youth in a language they can understand. Sport can create hope where once there was only despair. It is more powerful than governments in breaking down racial barriers. It laughs in the face of all types of discrimination -Nelson Mandela "

According to him , the maiden edition of the youth soccer tournament tagged: Kano '2020, is to kickoff’ in Kano from November 29 to December 5, 2020.

The statement further reads : " The youth tournament is initiated to discover and seep out youthful untapped underprivileged football talents from the North-West geopolitical zone, develop and expose them to national and global exploits.

"Considering the stark reality that youths constitute the most productive and the most promising members of the society, yet the most delicate, component of the society, the tournament is aimed at prompting youth engagement through sport, this will contribute to the social and personal development of youth and serves as a means of empowering the young people and promoting theirs skills for future national or international engagement.

" It has also been proposed that the tournament provides benefits for socio-economic development to both young people and other members of the society.


"The youth engagement through sports will help in addressing the challenges of youth unemployment, youth restiveness including thuggery, drugs, and other social vices, capable of accelerating the country's slide to hopelessness.

" The tournament will serve as an avenue to re-orient and re-engineer the minds and energies of our youth into ventures that facilitate and accelerate the country's attainment of prosperity according to emerging global imperatives."


"The competition is to draw youth teams from the seven states of the zone's of Kebbi, Sokoto, Zamfara, Katsina, Kano, Kaduna and Jigawa. Players of the ages of 15-23 representing their states will lock horns towards winning the trophy.

" The tournament which is been hosted by Kano State is expecting scouts from the national and global levels.

"Already, according to the Head of the Technical Organizing Committee of the tournament, Saidu Idris Dibis, teams from the seven states are already bracing up for the competition.

"He called on all APC elected personalities, political appointees, stakeholders in youth and sports development as well as all well-meaning people to come to come out and support this initiative and to have successful outing in Kano '2020.

"On his part, the Zonal Youth Leader of APC Northwest comrade Abubakar Sadiq Sa’adu Fakai, who is also the initiator of the tournament thanks and appreciate the effort of Kano State Government under the leadership of His excellency, Governor Abdullahi Ganduje (Kadimul Islam) in Hosting the tournament.

"Sadiq Fakai also called on all APC stakeholders, philanthropists and business community to support the initiative as it aims at engaging youth from all the Northwest region and promote their potentials to the global stage.

He further, stated that the one-day symposium that be organized as part of the sporting activities will bring professionals and experts to present and discuss on issues focusing on; Sport as an entrepreneurial venture, pros and cons, Available youth empowerment opportunities provided by APC led Administration, Harnessing the youth potentials in Diversification of northern economy, Role of youth in developing northern Nigeria, Discovering the youth hidden potential for economic development, Youth responsibility: The road to our collective development in the Northwest, among other intellectual and scientific method designed to bring the development narrative of Northern Nigeria.
