The Super Eagles and it former players Nwankwo Kanu and Mikel Obi on Wednesday paid tribute to the late football star Diego Maradona, Igbere TV reports.

The Eagles tweeted three emojis depicting heartbreak, adding “RIP Diego Maradona.”

Senator Shehu Sani described the late football legend Diego Maradona as a “sportsman with conviction.”

Sani tweeted this on Wednesday following reports Maradona died after suffering a heart attack.

“Diego Armando Maradona, an unforgettable football maestro and a sportsman with conviction. Rest in peace and rise in glory,” Sani said.

Igbere TV reports that Maradona starred for Boca Juniors, Napoli and Barcelona among others. He returned to coach Argentina in a brief spell. His last coaching role was at Gimnasia a club based in the city of La Plata.

Maradona’s death has thrown the football world into mourning.


The football legend is expected to be honoured in UEFA Champions League matches billed for Wednesday night.
