Even as they warm up for the main event come December 10th holding at Green Minds Hotel, Utako, it was a great honour for Associate Prof. Amb. Ephraim-Stephen Essien, International President Ambassadors of UN SDGs Network, Amb. Rachel Bakam the Country Director Ambassadors of the UN SDGS Network with the rest of the team to visit the office of Abom Ephraim Victor Okon to award him as a United Nations SDGS Ambassador for his great work in Developing Good health, wellbeing and reduced Inequality which are goals 3 and 10.

Prof. Essien gave an introduction on the history of the United Nations then Amb. Rachel Bakam listed the awardees amongst which are notable personalities like Alh. Aliko Dangote, High Chief Prince Arthur Eze, Dr Ngozi Iweala, Dr Ahmed Isah, Dr Goodluck Jonathan, Mr Tony Olumelu, Amb (Chief) Rachel Bakam and a selected list of other notable Nigerians contributing to the Development of Nigeria and the World. Who is Abom Ephraim Victor Okon?

Abom Ephraim Victor Okon attended St. Mary's Primary School, Nto Okpo, for his primary education, which he completed in 1984, before proceeding to pursue his secondary education at Queen of Apostles Seminary, Afaha Obong, between 1985 - 1991.

Filled with the zeal to serve God as a priest, the young lad, Ephraim, proceeded to Marianum Spiritual Year Seminary, Calabar, and studied there between 1992 - 1993. By providence, Ephraim could not go further in the seminary training, partly due to the demise of his father about that period.

Currently the Nigeria Resident Representative of Population Media Center (PMC) from 2009 to date, PMC is a United States-based non-governmental organization headquartered in Vermont, USA, he a member of the global teams leader of Population Media Center(www.populationmedia.org). Prior to becoming Nigeria’s Country Representative of in 2009, he had been Executive Assistant to the former Country Representative between 2008 - 2009. PMC strives to improve the health and well-being of people around the world through entertainment-education. They are experts in behavior change communications and their work has impacted more than 54 countries.

Abom holds an LLB in Law from Baze, University; a MSc in Social Works from Ladoke Akintola University, Ogbomosho, Oyo State; an MA in Development Communication from Nasarawa State University, Keffi and a PhD from Nassarawa State University (in view). He was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Science degree from The Institut Superieur De Management ET DE TECHNOLOGIE, ISMT University, Benin Republic in November 2018. He titled Chief with the Chieftaincy title of Abom 1 of Okon and several other chieftaincy titles.He is the Publisher/Chairman of The Exponent Newspapers, a member of Board of Trustees of the proposed Centre for Health Education, Human Rights, and Youth Development (CHEHRYD), Abak, Akwa Ibom State. Ephraim is currently the President, Nto Annang Foundation, Nigeria; President of Annang Community in Abuja, Patron of many organisations including National Association of Akwa Ibom Student (NAAKIS), University of Abuja Chapter; A member of Board of Trustees of EVOCAB Foundation, a non-governmental organization working in philanthropy, human rights and civil rights advocacy. He is also Member of Board of Trustees of Krane Research and Development, Abuja.


As can be seen and generally attested to, Ephraim is a product of hard work and honesty. He believes in hard work as the basis of success. Hence, his motto, hard work is success, rendered in Latin as LABORE EST PROSPERE. Our people say that the lazy man does not eat diet (Ifu idiagha nnien) and that una ubokutom ifippe mfi (the jobless does not eat perewinkle). Thus, our son's and our brother's philosophy of LABORE EST PROSPERE (Hard work is Success) should be able to inspire and motivate us all gathered here to resolve to be more hardworking in every good work we find ourselves.
Abom. Ephraim Okon is happily married to beautiful Joan, and the marriage is blessed with two adorable children, Victor AniebietAbasi Ephraim Okon and Victoria Edikan Ephraim Okon.

We could not even achieve any of the Millennium Development Goals.... Yet we don run shift our focus to SDGs....
