The government of the Republic of Niger has declared a three days mourning over the death of former President Tadja Mamadou who died at 82 years of age.

Tadja was the President of Niger from 1999 to 2010 but was overthrown in a bloodless coup in 2010 after he attempted to alter the constitution to enable him stay in office beyond the constitutional number of terms.

Tadja died on Tuesday in Niemey the capital of Niger but the cause of his death is still unspecified.
