Bonny Island is situated at the southern edge of Rivers State in the Niger Delta region of Nigeria. It is near Port Harcourt. Ferries are the main form of transport to and from the island. The local language spoken on Bonny Island is Ibani. Many natives also speak the Igbo language.

Bonny Island has five Duawaris (lit. ancestral royal houses). All represent the founding generation of its kingdom. These are:

(i) The Bristol-Alagbariye House,

(ii) The Halliday-Awusa House,

(iii) The Dublin Green House (Lala, Ebie, Asimini-Oruakpa lineages),

(iv) The Oruasawo Tolofari House (Kumaluya-Ndende, Omuigbem lineages), and

(v) The Buoye-Omuso Brown House

With a parliamentary monarchical system resembling the UK type of government the people of Bonny Island can forge ahead with better development and not democracy which has done Africa no good.

Economy:
In the early 1990s the Federal Government of Nigeria, in collaboration with 3 international partners, Shell Gas BV., CLEAG Limited [ELF] and AGIP International BV. started the multibillion-dollar project Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas Limited (Nigeria LNG). Due to its strategic position, Bonny Island, particularly the Finima community area along Bonny Island, is hosting various multinational oil companies including Royal Dutch Shell, Mobil, Chevron, Agip, and Elf.

Land size of Bonny Island is 645.6 km² and Singapore land size is 725.7 km².

Following the Singaporean way of development Bonny Island can be the next big thing in Africa.

Don't get it twisted, Lagos is what it is today due to the influence of Federal government concentrating everything there. Make it semi autonomous and let government decentralize everything and see if Lagos will still maintain its position.

If Lagos goes same route as Hongkong

It will still have its large seaport and air port

All the factories like Dangote refinary and co will still operate in Lagos

Hong Kong you're comparing with Lagos is situated in a relatively industrialized and economically developed region unlike Lagos that is situated in a poor region. Remove Nigeria from Lagos affairs and watch Lagos decline!

For instance, if the government should close MMIA and force all international flights to use say Abuja, P.H, Kano and Enugu. Channel sea freight traffic to the Eastern ports. Arm-twist embassies and consulate offices to relocate to Abuja or open offices in other regions. Doing just these few things alone will cause a torpedo effect that will bring Lagos to its knees.
