Seniors in the house, what certifications can a web developer acquire to make themselves competitive for the world after the pandemic. A nairalander got a job in the UAE by acquiring the Magento certification. From the Magento website, there is just one developer in Nigeria that is certified. It's a niche that doesn't seem to have a lot of people In it. What would you guys advice people to acquire amongst all this

I'm not really a fan of certifications. I feel it's more about acquiring the skills required in these countries. These days, it's usually JavaScript, Go, AWS and many other companies aren't so language agnostic.

In my opinion, here are some important things to consider:
- Building (big and challenging) projects that you can show and talk about
- Solving algorithm and data structures problems (Leetcode)
- System design/understanding how to scalable systems

True skills trump certifications anytime but the thing is that for this niche cases company rarely employ anyone that does not have the certification because of how complex the systems are.

In terms of certification, I would personally give preference to the AWS and PMP for those interested in project management

Seeing how not so useful presently the certificate we struggled 4yrs to get is, my mind has actually moved far away from certifications.


But in this computer industry thing, certification is surely important unless we want to deceive ourselves.

By the time I'd want to get certificates, AWS will be top on the list.

I'd surely add Magento as well.

I don't know much about Salesforce but I heard they bought Slack at $27.7B this morning on twitter. I'd really love to look into them.

In the world of cloud services, AWS lead others follow.

I can't say I've touched AWS like that but I have a 4 hrs video on it. By the time I clear the obstacles before me, I will dedicate a month for it.

Bro, there is money in e-commerce o. A lot of money, so don't look down on Magento.

One thing I'd surely love to add is Docker and Kubernates certification.

Also, I don't know if Continuous Integration and Continuous Development has certifications because if they do, I'd really love to get them.

AWS is a most certificate to get.

I think AWS should be top on your list then you could consider Magneto.

Please i need someone to really coach and teach me everything abt this certification, i want to go into programming and i am just hearing this (certification) for the first time... I don't want to miss out on anything.. Thank you in advance and God bless you..

If your desire is to travel, you should focus on getting a job offer. The UK process is pretty straight forward and easy once you get the job offer.

AWS, GCP, MS Azure, PMP, Salesforce, Cisco, Security certs are nice to have.

In reality, certs are just to cross the HR. I've meet some really good engineers without a degree or cert. Some of the best hackers don't have any either.

Here, I'm not sure we rate certifications for developers, just be good at your skills, have a catchy portfolio with loads of works on your GitHub account with nice markup intro on your default page. DevOps engineers are scarce too. For some of us eyeing international, as demand for developers abroad is increasing by the day with fascinating pay, having these certifications are a proof to employers to consider you before their nationals sef. AWS solution architect, AWS cloud practitioner, Azure is a good rival to AWS too, PMP is good too for software business managers, oracle and Java should still be okay, SAP, and if you're adding security, you should know everyone is trying to stay safe from intruders, red hat is good too, and Salesforce. AWS is good but I don't see it as a nice to have. Regardless of what certification or technology you choose to work, so long as it's web development you must work with AWS, azure or gcp.

Having it comes with good pay increase, AWS is good, I've seen international jobs requesting their job candidates have it. And AWS features in the top highest certifications for developers, remember we have two types. As you rightly put, when it comes to web development, you must work with AWS, Azure, depending on your company.
