Chop off and bury or burn that head. Some species are known to bite after they are thought to have been killed hours later. 2 Likes 1 Share |

Nelson0019:It's definitely venomous. Venomous snakes have diamond-shaped heads, non-venomous snakes generally do not. Gabon Vipers have a 'horn' on their head. I do not see one on the snake you killed. Glad you killed it because one thing is for sure-it is venomous. |

I suspect that was the snake that killed my friend about 15 years ago.He went to poo in the bush at night without light and mistakenly stepped on it and he never survived that bite. They took him to all the native healers in Nigeria but he still died. It’s advisable to always move with torch light at night because that saved me one night during my NYSC .I was walking on a lonely pathway and flash my light to a black snake that covered the way. When I mobilized an came back it wasn’t there anymore. |

I believe the Yoruba call it "Oka"(curl) because it always curled up waiting for prey, and the Gaboon Viper is called "Paramole" (hidden in the ground). The 'V' pattern on the Addder and the rectangular pattern at the back Viper is the first difference to note then the color of the head the Adder tends to be darker shade and Gaboon has the lighter shade |
