Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu SAN, on Thursday said his administration was focus on growing Cash crops to replace oil for the purpose of generating the much sort after foreign earnings for the country.

Governor Akeredolu emphasized the need to explore the value chain of Cocoa to boost the revenue inflow of the state and generate employment for the teeming youth.

The Governor who spoke while playing host to the National Project Office of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) said what oil is contributing to the economy is dwindling.

While stressing the need to grow Cocoa as a cash crop to improve the economy, Governor Akeredolu said the investment of the State Government on Cocoa Plantations in some parts of the state particularly at Jugbere in Owo Local Government Area, was a deliberate move to develop cash crop which the state has greater comparative advantage.

He said that the state was also focusing on cassava plantation to meet the demands of Ethanol Producing Factory in Ore and at various Starch Producing Factories across the state.

Arakunrin Akeredolu disclosed that his administration was also making waves in the Poultry sub-sector through the Powdered Egg Project in Emure-Ile , which he said direct and indirect jobs would be created in thousands with unqualified multiplier effects.

He noted that his administration was also leveraging on its aquatic potentials being a coastal state to develop aquaculture and create jobs for the people.

Earlier, the National Coordinator of IFAD, Engr. Abiodun Sanni has commended Governor Akeredolu for his unrelenting dedication to the promotion of Agriculture and it's value chains.

He said the demonstrated interest of the Governor at using agriculture as a veritable vehicle for job and wealth creation brought about the partnership of IFAD with the state.

Engr. Sanni who was happy that the state was the first to pay up its counterpart funds among the states in Nigeria ,assured that it's Livelihood Improvement Family Enterprises for Niger-Delta,code-named LIFE-ND, would impact the lives of over 4,250 direct beneficiaries and 20,000 indirect beneficiaries within the six years of the project.

The title made it look as if he said we need to ensure zero oil export to in order to grow the economy. But I figured he was rather saying we can grow the economy even with zero oil export. Lexical ambiguity.

Forward thinking mind... Ondo is an oil producing state, yet he's futuristic and seeing the handwriting on the wall that crude oil can't continue to feed us, divesting into agriculture (cash crops)

Yet the North led government is still trying to strike oil for many years and further wasting scarce resources while the money could have gone into agro l- based businesses

Zero oil export for Nigeria means agricultural produce export,(raw material). The implication is that there will be more hunger and starvation in the land, because little will be left to feed the teeming population.
The only way to diversify the Nigerian economy is to embrace technology.we should bring companies from China to set up production plants in Nigeria in areaa like computers, phone,,motor vehicle,/Keke production etc and our youths should be engaged, with this technology will gradually be transferred to is

Have you been to Ondo?
Ondo has the worst electricity in S/W ,no drainage at all and have not so good road network.
So there isn't much difference.

All North-Western states excluding zamfara are performing far better than Ondo state in all ramifications. I swear we will never allow a governor to perform at his level beyond single tenure. You people need to know Nigeria very well and avoid being duped by media hype than reality.
Your education has demonstrated nothing with extremely poor governance ur governors are leading.

Ogun state is merely enjoying the effect of its proximity to Lagos. I haven't seen much zeal in their polities and programmes that show a development-determined/oriented government. Unfortunately, there's a limit to how far that can take you.
My take is that with a very serious governance, Ondo is next to Lagos (and will pose a closer economic boost) if we look at all the potentials and resources. Then comes Ogun, Oyo, Osun and Ekiti in that order.
If we have to consider the Kwarans and the yoruba-speaking kogi, then Kwara comes before Osun while Kogi beats Ekiti.
Remember, this analysis is based on potentials and resources (if nurtured).
