A director of Conella Services, the private military company engaged in the fight against Boko Haram during the Goodluck Jonathan administration has punctured the claim of the Federal Government that Nigeria will continue to be at the mercy of Boko Haram because the country has been denied weapons to prosecute the war against insurgency.

It will be recalled that Alh. Lai Mohammed, Minister of Information few days ago had said “Nigeria has made an attempt to acquire a better and more effective platform to deal with terrorists but for one reason or the other we have been denied this platform, these weapons and without adequate weapons or platform we remain at the mercy of terrorists”.

But speaking in an interview on Arise TV conducted by Reuben Abati, a former media aide to former President Goodluck Jonathan and monitored by Daily Independent, the director whose face was blurred to conceal his identity said Nigeria has enough weaponry to prosecute and win the war against Boko Haram insurgents.

According to him, what Nigeria currently lacks is good intelligence and knowledge to prosecute the war.

Speaking further, he said if Nigeria’s current military arsenal is judiciously maximized coupled with good intelligence, Boko Haram will be forced to flee or come to the negotiation table within six months.

While also debunking the claims that Boko Haram has sophisticated weapons, the director said what Boko Haram makes use of are the few armooured tanks and other weapons seized from Nigeria’s military.

He added that instead of waiting unsuccessfully to purchase weapons, all Nigeria needs to do is to renovate, readjust or reassemble the existing weapons at its disposal and put it into effective usage.

When asked why will a developed country, a military power prevent a country that is trying to fight terrorism , which is regarded as global from having access to the necessary equipment to do the work, he said “Knowledge is everything. Fighting a counter-insurgency war is an unsophisticated effort. What is Nigeria needs is really good intelligence and I believe the President referred to that in his meeting with the state governors”.
“Intelligence is everything. If you know what the enemy is doing even when he is armed, you can take him on. Boko Haram drives around in civilian vehicles and motorcycles. They walk, they stay in the bush. They do not have large artillery missiles, they don’t have armored vehicles maybe one or two that they have captured but not enough to make a defense”.

“To address that, it does not require sophisticated or advanced weaponry. It requires the weaponry that Nigeria has in its inventory to be used properly. Perhaps these has to be renovated, readjusted or updated but there is enough weaponry in the Nigerian inventory to win the war”.

how do you expect them to win. when they are always dividing the weapons between themselves and Boko harams.
any mission they are always over powered by those insurgency, who in turns loots their Arsenal

Yet boko guys keep tormenting Nigeria since time immemorial and we ain't sure if it won't be that way for another 600yrs.....Though I'm hoping it won't and one of the solutions is to vote out these incompetent Politifians and vote in Young Leaders with capacity and emphaty to solving pressing challenges or problems!

Despite the fact that guerrilla warfare isn't easily won, I have this feeling that the powers that be aren't doing their best to subdue the terrorists who deserve joy in slaughtering people for their blood thirsty god.

I agree.The military & government are simply cashing out from this senseless self inflicted counter bandits/ terrorist war.Chad, Mali and Niger Republic never bought new weapons but BH really felt the heat.So what a nation needs is responsible leadership.

Not a state where terrorists and conventional army share the chief & weapons.$1B have gone but the insecurity have not abated.Use the available when the desired is not available.Only the lazy workman complains about his tools for not getting the job done.

The sham fight against Boko Haram has become the largest hole that takes half of the budget meant for the entire projects of the country.

The North has created NEDC just because they want to also be like NDDC, (After bombing theirselves they ask for billions for reconstruction).
