I think its time we focussed on issues that move a country forward rather than all these debate about muslim and Christian. Are we not all tired already about these things? Let's grow the nations economy and prepare a better country for our kids. This is our country. We can't run away from it. This religious issues divide us rather than unite us.
no qualms yet if we don't remove such sentiments of segregation we will keep on going on a divide than uniting, it keeps begging the question of why this and that, have a nice day.

In other words, that poster was right, neighbouring African nations sponsor the killing of Nigerian farmers in order to create scarcity in Nigeria and market for their goods in Nigeria. If so, then reopening the border rewards insecurity in Nigeria.

Can’t find the poster but he essentially argues that the targeting of Nigerian farmers are acts of economic terrorism and sabotage.

Most of the people commenting do not know about what is going on as far as the border closure and reopening is concerned!

One just have to ignore their ignorance and move on!

Thanks sir. I'm a muslim and my best friend is a Christian. We have been friends since school. We were house mates after school, we were cell mates when we got into trouble with our landlord. We are age mates too lol. Religion did not divide us. Muslims and Christians are not really enemies. Its the politicians that want it to be so. You see how they used religion and ethnicity to quell the endsars movement. They always count on us to fight each other. The day we realise this. Our country will move forward.
Abeg na one blood all of us get, make we love each other for God's sake. If kasala burst for south Africa na all Nigerians go be victims oooo. Our common enemies no dey select north or south. Na one we be for their eyes..

grin patriotism is more scarce than getting a gallon of scorpion venom in Nigeria. Summing all our predicaments can be equated to the sum of bad leadership and citizenry due to lack of patriotism in the forcefully amagamated country. All thanks to lugard. If he had known what this race is capable of, he would have let us be. Development has been salt to our wounds since stone ages. No matter the amount of power bestowed on us, we use it on ourselves first. And in a very negative way... We don't care if others are in pains, as far as Nepotism favours us, and we can feather our own nest. Ask yourself, "if I happen to find myself in such position tomorrow, will mine be better and exceptional?". Keep your answer to yourself and continue the hypocrisy. No

You said it all!
Even those who don't have idea about how Nigeria can move forward, yet due to greed, greed and greed, they just want to occupy space and Cruise with Nigeria destiny! Too Shameful!

Borders are reopened, but importation of rice is still under ban.

Thank God rice import is still under ban.
Why?

Rice consumption is not good for our health. Eating rice causes high blood pressure and diabetes. In addition, eating rice very often makes you develop pot belly and constipation--leading to early death

How many of see Nigerian men with pot belly?
Don't they look ugly to you?
That is why eating is not good for your health!

Does Nigeria have their own seaport if we have to go to other countries to buy what we could have imported through the ports. See, you need to be realistic that customs are also a part of the problem in this country. They basically help in aggravating the burdens on Nigerians by helping double prices of commodities all in the name of revenue generation

Alright!

The border was shut towards the end of 2019 primarily to reduce importation and encourage production and patronage of local products. It is also to stall smuggling of contraband items like rice, arms among others.

When this policy was made, MAN (that is, Manufacturers Association of Nigeria) praised the government, because the development would help them produce and sell more without threats from foreign products.

For the government, shutting the border, it was hoped, would boost local production and gear us towards self-sufficiency. However, taking stock of the events that have occurred between then and now, it is not sure if the intended purpose would be achieved simply because of the 'greed' of local producers and suppliers.

Now, let's take rice as a case study. Note that rice has been a contraband product for years but was still always finding its way into the country. The foreign rice is far cheaper and, thus, affecting the ability of local producers to sell because they could not compete with foreign rice on the level of quality and price. Therefore, it was a gain for local rice producers when the border was totally shut.

But, unfortunately, what the border closure has done, at best, is to foster an increase in production and sales of local rice. It did not stop the price of rice from skyrocketing to a level that a common man can no longer afford. In other words, the policy did not better the lot of the masses, even though the government had good intentions.

I blame local producers and suppliers whose greed and to posture to 'have it all now' brought the policy to disrepute. The border closure was their chance to penetrate and gain the local market with quality and fairly-priced products but they missed it.

I will not blame the government if the reopening of the border affects the business of MAN because they did not help the government to prove that the border closure was good. Federal Government cannot continue to take insults and curses from the masses for the border closure while some sections of MAN continue to use the instance of the policy to milk Nigerians.

As the border reopens, I expect the quantity of foreign rice finding its way into the country to massively increase and this will crash the price of a bag of rice in the market. Many local producers will lose businesses. I expect suppliers to divert into the supply of foreign products. So, in the end, it is local producers that will lose.
