With the new strain and second wave of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) on high, the Government of Cross River State has put a ban on large gathering activities including the 2021 Tinkoriko, Nyoro Ekpe, Nnabor (to be held January 1st, 2021) and other similar cultural events in the state.

Recall that the Government had earlier cancelled the Carnival Calabar, which for the first time in 16 years, Africa's biggest street party was put on whole - all due to Coronavirus.

However, in a statement signed by Operation Akpakwu on Wednesday night, December 30, 2020, the government warned that anyone caught flouting the order will be prosecuted.

"This is a warning to organizers of Nyoro Ekpe 2021 in Efe Ekpe Iboku Utan, opposite Duke Town Presbyterian Church that they will be arrested and prosecuted should they go ahead with the planned public masquerade display during this period.

"The state government has banned public displays of masquerades including Tinkoriko, Nnabor and any other gathering that fails the Covid-19 protocol.

"So please be warned", the statement read.
