Regardless of what the year 2020 served us with, the football world did enjoyed watching the players who broke through in the year, while they also wait on them to develop from been a youngsters to superstars.

Having said that, the football world is usually blessed with top players season in, season out, as such when youthful footballers breakthrough and go on to establish themselves in their respective teams, it gives the fans joy and some sense of bragging right against other fans.

Every professional football clubs in the world uses numerous exploring systems or tactics in scouting young talent, with the hope that in the long run such player would blossom into a world class player. However when they don’t work out, that still won’t deter the club in scouting more.

So today on Sportyleagues, we’ll chronicle ten players who breakthrough in the year 2020, despite the year been an eventful one in the world of football.

Ronald Araujo – (Barcelona)

The year 2020 was no doubt a torrid year for the Catalan giant, from the narratives of former club President Bartomeu resignation till he finally left, to the exit of Lionel Messi, to the injuries of top players and their inconsistency in matches.

Prior to the injury of Gerrard Pique, the Nou Camp side were a bit solid at the back, but when he picked up an injury the backline of Barcelona was in shambles, couple with the injury of Samuel Umtiti. Since then the young Uruguayan centre back, who had his debut in 2019 against Sevilla has stepped into the backline to steady the ship with the Frenchman Thomas Lenglet.

So far so good, without mincing word Ronald Araujo has been one of the brightest player of Barcelona in the year in review, delivering top-notch performances in a torrid season for the Blaugrana. Should he continue in that impressive form in this new year, then perhaps he might be one of the defender to watch out for as he progresses in his career wether as a Barcelona player or elsewhere.

Carlos Solar – (Valencia)

The year 2020 is one ugly year the Los Che would want to forget in a hurry, because it was a year they suffered internally in terms of administration, financially, and the departure of their top players which gave the opportunity to player like Solar.

Carlos Solar wouldn’t have had an immense and impressive 2020, if club captain Dani Parejo had remain at the club, but thankfully to the departure of Parejo in the summer to Villarreal which makes the 23 year old midfielder stepped up his game and also maturing into been a leader to the Mestalla side.

Following the exit of superstars like Parejo, Coquelin both to the Yellow Submarine, Godfrey Kondogbia to Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid, and Ferran Torres to Manchester City, it was expected that Los Che would suffer top quality play in the middle of the park and leadership wise. However, fortunately for them Solar was moved into a more central midfield role, and since he hasn’t disappointed the Mestalla fans with five goals and four assists to his name.

Gonzalez Pedri – (Barcelona)

The thought of every football club is, when they get a talented player such player should come good for them in the end. As such, when the Blaugrana got the 18 year old from Las Palmas, they knew they’ve gotten themselves a talented player who could become a superstar.

However, having seen how swift he has grown in his understanding of the game at such age, it’s comes as some sort of mystery to the Catalan giant. In the year 2020, Pedri has no doubt been the orchestrator in Chief in that Barcelona team, and he seems to be growing with each passing match of his Barcelona career.

One crucial thing that has also been working for him, is the fact that he’s been one of the player in the Barcelona team that seems to understand Messi better, which has been evident in some of the matches they played together delivering mind-blowing performances that got Messi thrilled. Many Blaugrana faithful have also predicted that, should he continue with this kind of trajectory, he would be Barcelona’s future star someday.

Eduardo Camavinga – (Rennes)

The French national team were known for often parading African born players who possesses top quality, reason why Camavinga’s case isn’t different. The young lad broke into the Rennes first team at the age of 16, and at such a delicate and maturing age of a football player much isn’t expected of them in terms of impressive performances.

However, in Camavinga’s case he defies the odd and went on to become the engine room and brain box of Rennes’s midfield in 2019 down to the year in review. Since his debut season, Camavinga has grown into an elegant player on the ball, delivering consistently impeccable performances all season which makes him been linked to top clubs in Europe.

Should Camavinga continue delivering consistent performances for Rennes, the rumor’s about his link to Real Madrid might in the end becomes a reality which would see him don the white jersey of Los Merengues as the heir to the Brazilian Casemiro.

Saka is arguably the next best player behind their captain Pierre Emerick Aubameyang at Arsenal in 2020. The winger has truly established himself as first team regular after making his debut last season, delivering double digit goals and assists in 29 appearances across all competition for the Gunners.

Even though the Gunners has been going through a torrid time in the Premier League, yet the English international continues to win lot of plaudits from the Arsenal’s faithful all over the world. The future of Saka is clearly a bright one, should he up the ante of his pace, confidence and intelligence on the ball.

As we entered into the new year today, lot of responsibility is placed on the shoulder of teenager as Micheal Arteta and his boys hope to bounce back from their horrendous form.
