I am planing to get an SUV before the middle of the year by Gods grace, meanwhile I have highlander 2006/7 in mind. Until my machanic suggest I go for 4runner same year.
Pls car gurus in house kindly help me with more info that will help me to decide on which one to go for.

4runner with a v6 engine not v8

The 2008 forerunner has the same engine with fjcruiser and from my own experience,it's very sensitive and fragile.I replaced my fj engine in 2018 and it cost me about 800k and it must be over a million naira currently.
You will need to service it as at when due and with the right engine oil to enjoy the vehicle.I really don't know much about the Highlander 07 performance.

You may not have noticed that the 4runner has basically disappeared from the show room in Nigeria like the Landcruise did earlier.
Reason being:
1) It was a lot cheaper to buy the Highlander, than the 4Runner.
2) Due to our tendency to buy cars near junk status and terrible maintenance culture/knowhow 4Runner is more expensive to own.
3)A replacement 3.5 for the Highlander is easier to source than the 4.0 in 4Runner

The 3.0 evolved into 3.3 then 3.5 still in use 15years after, and the 4.0, and 5.7 has been around for at least 13 years..
They will be coming in late to the turbo party, or just skip straight to the hybrid party.
Everyone is trying to catch up with Tesla now and a 15yr old engine will not be in a lasting fight.

May I inform you that engine is one very robust and rugged and very reliable engine. I have they've been known to exceed 500k miles without a sungle issue.
