Says dissolution of APC executive political hypocrisy

Head of Department of Political Science, University of Ilorin, Dr. Gbade Ojo, yesterday, urged the National Leader of All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to reconcile with Afenifere leaders to get their support in the 2023 presidential election.

Ojo, an associate professor of Comparative Politics, who was Chief of Staff (COS) to former Governor Abiola Ajimobi, stated this in an interview with The Guardian in Ibadan, Oyo State.

He maintained that anybody who underrated Afenifere did so at his political peril, saying members of the group were strong opinion leaders.

His words: “On a serious note, Tinubu is a popular personality and politically networked person in the Southwest. Going by the number of people he has made in politics, Tinubu is a force to reckon with politically in the Southwest.

“But that is within the Southwest APC. Don’t forget that there are people in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who may not be ready for him and would not support his candidature.

“Also, there are other groups like Afenifere. The way they have been talking, it seems they are not in support of Tinubu. Looking at the pattern of voting in the 2019 general elections, which is more empirical than sentimental, if more people could have voted for PDP in the presidential elections in Oyo, and Ondo States, you can’t say Tinubu is the most popular candidate in the Southwest.”

He said Tinubu needed to work hard and romance some groups, which are not in support of his political aspiration. Afenifere members are influential to that extent and a number of them are opinion moulders. The print and broadcast media give them a lot of publicity. They can go a long way to influence the electoral decisions of some people.

“Rather expect a situation whereby Tinubu would go underground to meet with Afenifere leaders, I would have like him to ask them the cause of their grouses so that he could mend fences with them. You don’t underrate anybody when it comes to politics and elections. It could amount to one’s political undoing to underrate Afenifere. They are politically relevant,” he stated.

Ojo said dissolution of the All Progressives Congress (APC) executive last year was political hypocricy, adding: “The APC has a Caretaker Committee to manage the transition. It is funny for the party to dissolve itself. That is why the opposition thinks that they were not supposed to be in government.”

The same Afeniferi he once slighted and polarized into factions? So this baba is still interested in adding to the woes long created with the present unmitigated disaster he foisted on this nation? God no go shame us.

The South West should as a matter of fact take things easy with the way they are pushing this man to contest even if we also know that the greed in him is firing his passion to be president. The Yorubas should not be too greedy like Tinubu, the presidency should be zoned to the South East, they deserve it.

All those who talk rubbish that presidency can not be given to them on the platter of gold just like that should also know that each and every ethnic unit is a stakeholder in this Nigerian project. This is not Oduduwa or Arewa republic.
I still maintain that unless the Igbos take it by fire by force, it is tilll 2060 before they will even voice out again. We in the South South will complete our 4 years that Jonathan hasn't finished, that is if the South West is allowed to do 8 years then the North will do another 8 after them before zoning back which will be for the South South 4 years that Jonathan hasn't finished.

The South Easterners are busy in Ariaria, Onitsha and Balogun markets doing business, relaxing, drinking beer and eating nkwobi forgetting that they will play politics.

Against elders advice, Tinubu convinced SW to align with Buhari without any written commitment, today the SW and the country has paid a huge price with Fulani militia called bandits ravaging several communities with impunity and Buhari not willing to prosecute any of them due to nepotism.
While Afenifere see themselves as defenders of Yoruba interest especially as it concerns life which is sacrosanct, Tinubu sees himself as a power broker who decides who gets the ticket of APC to rule in any part of Yoruba land.
The two needs to put their differences aside and work towards the greater good of Yoruba nation.
Yoruba land is not supposed to be poor with all the resources and human capital that abound therein if not that it is being held down by northern leaders hegemony under an entity called Nigeria

If you think BAT would be jostling with the likes of fayemi, umahi and tambuwal for presidential ticket after 14 years of successful king making then you don't know tinubu.

Even without being president, Bourdilon is always visited from far and near.

BAT has proved himself to be greater than the presidency by removing an incumbent and installing a regular loser in one attempt.

BAT will play the same card he played in getting Osinbanjo the VP seat, to make him president.

Don't forget his friends, the democrats, are back to power in the US.
