NO SLOTS FOR AKWA IBOM POLITICIANS IN TEACHERS' RECRUITMENT

There would be no automatic slots for senior political office holders and top government officials in the recruitments of 1000 Secondary School teachers recently approved in Akwa Ibom State.

The Chairman, State Secondary Schools Education Board, Dr. Ekaette Ebong Okon who made the disclosure, Monday during a live interview on a radio programme "Dakkada Akwa Ibom" on Comfort 95.1 Fm, Uyo, said the recruitment process will be strictly enforced by merit as opposed to needless speculations.

"The problem of the country is always slots, which has killed the system, the Governor wants professionals so it's strictly going to be on merit."

"Governor Emmanuel has kept his promise by impacting in the lives of the people as well as ensuring qualitative education."

"We'll first go for professionals who read Education at first degree because we want to drive down the policy of government and then we need those really trained in the business of teaching," she added.

Speaking further on the modalities for the online application, she stated that recruitment will commence from Monday, January 18, as qualified applicants with first degrees in sciences, humanities, Education and Higher National Diploma Certificate holders will be recruited.

On why they chose online application method, she explained that the world has advanced to digital communication, hence the need for all to key into the trend.

"We have moved completely away from offline era to a new normal, Information and Communication Technology.

"It makes it easier for each category of teachers to be sorted out by a click of a button and will inform them if the applied rightly"she said.

She explained that subject analysis was done to know where teachers are lacking while stating that some core science subjects were captured during the last recruitment exercise.

Dr Ebong Okon, disclosed that government has approved the refurbishment, rehabilitation of classrooms, provision of laboratory, ICT centers, as well as the fencing of public schools which she said will be done by the first quarter of the year in order to create a conducive environment for learning.

She further called on the Social Reorientation team to partner with the Education board to curb social vices in secondary schools while stating that the education monitoring team of the Governor's office, as well as aides of the govervr have been making efforts to sensitize students on the need to be law abiding.

The SSEB Chairman spoke on the need for parental attention in instilling discipline on children, as charity begins at home.

Very easy to deceive Nigerians, of course there won't be slot for politicians because it is "teaching job", but when it is time for cbn, oil and gas etc recruitment ...
