Islamic View on Charli Charli Game

I was at the confusion on the dusk of Wednesday 6th of January 2021, when I heard a friend of mine made mention of something going viral on social media called Charli Charli, I took it with laxity thinking is of usual slang as what life turns until it's widespread necessitate this article.

Charlie is one of the legends crafted by creative minds over the centuries modeled around spirits and demons. Charlie is said to be a demon that is called upon to answer questions in an internationally popular game called Charlie Charlie that has gripped the Internet.

The game involves balancing two pencils in a cross shape over the words Yes or NO on a paper. Players ask questions that are supposedly answered by the mysterious demon named Charlie, who moves the top pencil by rotating it.

If the pencil rotates to Yes, it means what they are asking is correct, and if otherwise, it should be left out. Meanwhile, the game first emerged via Twitter and caused a craze worldwide in 2015 before it slowly crept in. Not until recently that later hit the media again en mass.

How did they play this game? They play it by saying.

Charlie Charlie are you there? it would respond by moving the pencil to yes afterward, you ask your questions, and you must take permission from her before leaving.

Allah(SWT) created Mankind, the word of Jinn, and the word of Animals. Among the Jinns, there are believers, and likewise non-believers.

'Amongst us are some that submit their wills (to Allah), and some that swerve from justice. Now those who submit their wills - they have sought out (the path) of right conduct'. (Q72vs14).

Islam believes in the existence of Jinn and warns Muslims against the evil ones among them, from whom the unbelievers sought unknown and unseen matters. Playing the Charli game is not more or less going to soothsayers, and the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) has warned us not to go to soothsayers or fortunetellers, let alone of believing their messages.

"Whoever goes to a fortuneteller and asks him about something, their Salah (prayer) will not be accepted for forty nights."

Narrated by Muslim

"Whoever goes to a soothsayer or a fortuneteller and believes what he says, has disbelieved in that which was revealed to Muhammad. (peace be upon him)."

Narrated by Al-Bazzar with a good Isnad (chain of narrators)

Allah alone knows what is hidden.

"Say, none in the heavens and earth knows the unseen except Allaah." [Quran 27:65].

Some Muslims take the matter lightly and make it merely a fun game, but it's capable and enough of taking one out of Islam. Beware of tribulation that will not only affect you alone but also those who nears you. The game has afflicted a lot of evil things in the life of those who played it.

"And fear an affliction which may not smite those of you in particular who are unjust, and know that Allah is severe in requiting (evil)." (Q8vs25).

Muslims should hold firmly to the oneness of Allah, without attaching or ascribing anything to him. The best action of a Muslim is to ask about a matter before engaging in it. Muslims should live his life as a prisoner on this earth surface, while the hereafter is the final abode. The prisoner here means restricted from copying all that non-believer are doing.

It is haraam for the Muslim to play the Charli Charli game because the player calls upon the Jinn, which comes under the heading of seeking the help of the Jinn, and the ruling on going to fortunetellers and soothsayers. All of these are haraam things.

May Allah guide us all from the deceitful act and make Jannatul Fridaaus be our final abode.

(Amin).
