What To Do When Your Potential Mentor Ignores You by AbdulAkpan: 1:01pm On Jan 14, 2021 |
Sometimes, you may reach out to a potential mentor and get ignored. Of course, your mentor could help you become more visible in your industry, but, sometimes, s/he could be too busy or too committed to various people and projects to take on more mentees. At other times, s/he may simply not be interested in taking you on as a mentee. This happens often and to anyone on the career ladder. Try not to become bitter if this happens to you, instead look for alternatives to put yourself out there. Luckily for everyone, social media platforms have given voices to everyone, including those who would otherwise, not have one. What are you using your social media for? What do you want people to remember when they see your name in print or hear your name mentioned? Map out an attainable plan that will help you achieve whatever visibility goal you have in your head and stick to it. Be consistent with your execution and watch yourself become a career thought leader in whatever field you are currently working in. Source - Lingo Africa (www.lingoafrica.com) |
