You are correct but one can prevent falling victim by using the App's security features.

Yea, You can also set 'Who Will Add you to a group' on the PRIVACY & SECURITY to only people you know or your contacts.
This is will make impossible for any stupid scammer to add you their useless group.
Those scammers usually use group membership to penetrate.

Infact, Telegram is not for the wise.
Too many scammers are in there. I use it because most of the groups I join ve many members, which is where Telegram has the edge over WhatsApp.
