Yerima Shettima, leader of Arewa Youth Consultative Forum (AYCF) has stated that the Northern part of Nigeria is the most backward in the country despite having a northerner, Muhammadu Buhari as president.

"It is sad that today, our own is in-charge of almost all the security agencies, our own is the number one man, yet we are the most backward and the worst victims of the incessant and senseless killings, banditry and terrorism." Shettima told Sunnewsonline.

" Today, the North is more at war than ever imagined; some people in the South have no idea of what the North is going through. More has to be done and we need to sit up and look at the security architecture of the country. We all as Nigerians must understand that the security of the country is collectively our business.

He added that the country needed to unify and act quick in order to prevent another civil war like what happened 51 years ago.

"Some of us were not born at the time of the civil war, but from what we read, those things that happened that led to the war were uncalled for and we shouldn’t have lost those souls that were lost." he said

"That is why some of us of this generation continue to insist that the right things should be done so that we avoid plunging the country into another war."

" If Nigeria should fall back into the same experiences of 51 years ago, the country may not survive it again. Fifty one years ago is a very long time and as we speak today, it is still very difficult to let go. The level of suspicion and division among us is getting worse by the day despite the forgiveness and other things. I pray that God should not allow us to experience again what happened 51 years ago."

"But for that to happen, we must embrace two things; we must apply equity and we must ensure justice for all; that is the only way to avert another conflict."

Responding to claims that the South-East geopolitical zone still feels marginalised in the Nigerian polity, he said;

"First is that the South-East geopolitical zone must be determined and more focused. I have said several times that they cannot allow one person to continue threatening our unity in a country where we are still struggling to build a nation."

"I believe the South East has very credible people among them, but they allow this man to talk anyhow and be their mouthpiece and the South East people do not in any way caution him."

"We can’t be threatened; Nigeria cannot be threatened. The annoying thing is that he is not even in the country, and even when he was in the country, he did not make any impact. We are all witnesses to the militant group he formed and armed them; naturally, you don’t expect people to fold their hands and continue to watch."

"That Nnamdi Kanu has been giving us terrible fear here about the possibility of breaking this country which we are milking dry, the North cannot survive without southern Nigeria oil"

This man should be picked by DSS for attempt to incite nepotistic tendencies of Buhari against those not in power.
What is the connection between being in power and being developed?

It's a lie! The north is not lagging behind! The have all the dams, the best and the biggest irrigation projects, the best road network, the multi billionaires, the oil well licenses, the gas field concessions, the cement plants, the telecoms, the banks, the north has 100% control of agriculture deu to federal government massive investments in this area, most northern cities have far better power supply than the south, they're building up their train links, their gas links, soon they will have their states tied to refineries in Niger! Some of the best universities and university teaching hospitals in Nigeria are in the North! Silos, new airports, inland ports! Name them! They have it all! Food is so cheap in the north! Food is not their problem nomatter how poor! Can you say the same of most part of the south?

So how come People that have all these will still be crying far more than folks that don't have these? Any problem of the north as at today is self inflicted! Poverty? They hate formal learning so they lack the modern skills to access opportunities right there in their lands! Illiteracy? They have schools and their kids get easily recruited once they graduate, yet kids from the south who have to spend years looking for jobs are better motivated to study! How come? It's the culture, stuupid! Insurgency? When you vehemently refused to train your kids because you are determined to use ignorance as a tool for mind control, that's what you get! We owe nothing to the north! Actually, they have to free the country! This is nothing but typical political blackmail and it should stop! It has to! Go to the north and see that we are running the country in two different ways; One way for the North, and another way for the rest of the country!

Northern Nigeria created the insecurities they are facing today. Boko Haram is a brain child of the north. I agree with the posters above, the north have it all from agriculture to transport to infrastructure but what is the use of all that when u don't even have peace?

You see these people and total hypocrisy, Boko Haram wants a total Islamic state and has gone all out to inflict havoc on the country by killing thousands of people including soldiers and police men, yet these Northerners don't see them as a threat to the unity of one Nigeria. Is only ipob that has not killed anybody that they are after.
