As the nation grapples with tackling the insecurity problems in the country, a lot of resources and needless human lives have been lost in the process. Almost no day passes without news of one form of kidnap or boko haram invading a location. As a result of this a lot of money is voted in to acquire military gears and expensive hardware yet the end never seems to be insight. If the war against various forms of kidnapping has to be won then some form of innovative ideas has to be explored, one of those should be in the use of dogs.
Dogs when properly trained can be used for tracking criminals. Most kidnapers are known to use highways like the Abuja-Kaduna highway or the Benin-Auchi highway to get their kidnap victims. Most victims when release all seem to say that they are made to trek long distances in such forest. If that is the case, dogs can be made to scent any of the personal effects of the individuals and then made to snip out the path taken by these persons and their abductors. It can even be taken a step further by fitting them CCTV transmitters so that security agents can monitor the progress of the dogs as they diligently go about their job.
With dogs on the trail of such kidnappers, the chances of them making a mistake is high, which will not only lead to them being caught but also deter them from future kidnappings.
