LABOUR HONOURS OHAKIM WITH AWARD OF EXCELLENCE

Impressed by the friendly disposition of Ikedi Ohakim-led government in Imo state with Labour as well as his laudable achievement to raise the standard of leadership to the benefit of all, Imo state chapter of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), on Wednesday, honoured the state governor, Ikedi Ohakim with Award of Excellence.

In a well-attended event at Sam Mbakwe hall, Imo Concorde Hotel, Owerri by labour leaders, all affiliates of the union members commended the leadership competence of Ohakim, and expressed confidence in him towards the provision of good governance.

In his address, the state chairman of the union, comrade Nze Obinna Aharanwa listed 17-point reasons that qualified Ohakim for the award.

Particularly, labour pointed out the harmonious relationship with the government as against the cat and mouse relationship of previous governments.

‘’The Governor has displayed administrative competence and ability to attract federal projects to Imo state. The transformation of the state capital into a model city state and extension of it’s sub-urban areas by major road construction and opening up of remote areas.

‘’injection of fresh blood into the civil service of Imo state by employing ten thousand youths. Removal of the marginalisation clause in the recruitment of civil servants. Recent frantic efforts to wipe out the disparity in the payment of subventions and salaries among others’’ Aharanwa listed.

He said labour will ensure that the governor is re-elected as his visible projects remain good testimony.

In his response, Ohakim said he is humbled by the award which is the first of its kind in the history of the South –East, pledging not to relent in his efforts to put coy of smile on the faces of the masses through his need-meeting projects.

He promised to implement the 18,000 naira minimum wage, revealing further that he has forwarded for executive approval, the creation of another 10,000 jobs for non-graduates.

Earlier the chairman of the occassion, Chris Asoluka, described Ohakim as ‘’a visionary governor that deserves another tenure for consolidation’’.
