Whenever a person observes the development of a new mole which changes its colour and expands on the epidermal surface, they should consult a skin cancer doctor. High exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation increases the chance of melanoma. Abnormal growth of skin cells can cause tumour inside the skin, developing and forming a type of cancer. It is known to almost everyone that once a patient reaches the third stage of the deadly disease, any treatment will not be able to recover them.

It is essential to take a biopsy of a new mole or spot on the skin. If a person finds any suspicious changes in the body's upper layer, they can consult an oncologist and have skin cancer check in Mornington. Detection of disease at the initial stages can be useful for successful cancer treatment.

Skin cancer usually develops in the area exposed to sunlight like scalp, face, lips, ears, neck, chest, arms and hands, and legs. It can also develop in the areas which are barely exposed to sunlight. Like the palms, in between finger and toenails, and in the genital regions. This cancer can develop to any person having any skin-tone; there is no melanin presence in preventing or occurrence of this disease.

Different types of skin cancers have various symptoms such as,

Basal cell carcinoma – this cancer may appear as a whitish or waxy bump, a flat pinkish or brown coloured scar or a bleeding sore which heals and occurs again
Squamous cell carcinoma – this cancer's appearance is like a firm red nodule or a flat spot with a scaly surface.
Melanoma – appears as a small mole in onset and later forms a large brown spot with dark shaded speckles, these spots may or may not have bleeding. A painful lesion that itches or burn can also be a form of melanoma. A small place with irregular boundary and is pinkish or whitish in appearance indicates the deadliest form of skin cancer.

In these three types, Basal cell and squamous cell carcinoma can be treated through medication and surgery. A dermatologist removes the cancerous cells and affected skin surface through a surgical procedure; whereas, for melanoma, doctors need to perform more complex surgeries to remove the tumour.

A person can have various preventive measures to avoid carcinomas like avoiding harsh sunlight between 10 am to 4 pm, applying sunscreen, protective clothing, and others. Research proves that exposure to the sun for a long run can cause skin cancer.
