The Police in Ogun State have arrested a 32-year-old commercial driver, Tunde Bello, for allegedly kidnapping and raping a 29-year-old woman (name withheld).

The Police Public Relations (PPRO) of the command, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, disclosed Friday that the suspect was arrested on Saturday, January 16.

Oyeyemi said the suspect was arrested following a complaint by the victim at the Mowe Police station.

Narrating her ordeal in the hands of her assailant, the victim said she boarded the suspect’s vehicle from Ogunrun road Mowe to Lagos while going to her office last September.

She said on getting to Mowe junction, the driver of the car made a detour to Ibadan road and drove her to a bush along Lagos-Ibadan express road where he beat her mercilessly before forcefully having carnal knowledge of her.

Not satisfied with that, the suspect held her hostage and asked her to call her relations to send the sum of N140,000 to him as ransom before she regains her freedom.

She further explained that she called her brother who transferred the money to her account which she subsequently transferred to an account given to her by her abductor before she was released.

The PPRO said, upon the report, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Marvis Jayeola, detailed his detectives to go after the suspect with the view to getting him arrested.

“The intelligence and technical based investigation embarked upon by the detectives yielded positive results when the suspect who had been under surveillance was apprehended on the 16th of January 2021,” Oyeyemi said.

The suspect, according to the PPRO, had confessed to committing the crime, adding that the Commissioner of Police, Edward A. Ajogun, has ordered the transfer of the suspect to the Anti kidnapping unit of the State Criminal Investigation and intelligence department for further investigation and prosecution.
