...as Governor Inuwa Hails Strategic Partnership Between Gombe and QC

The hospitality and rich cultural heritage of the people of Gombe State were once again in display when Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya hosted the Country Representative of the Qatar Charity organisation ( QC) Shiekh Hamdi El-sayed to a gala night at the new banquet hall of the Government House.

Speaking at event, Governor Inuwa Yahaya said on getting to know QC organisation, he immediately realized that the international humanitarian body is all out to serve and help humanity.

The Governor recalled that upon signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between his government and the Qatar Charity in October 2019, the organisation wasted no time in commencing the construction of mosques which go with the compliment of boreholes, toilets and other essential facilities.

He said the foundation has also replicated same gesture in 10 local government areas of the state except Gombe who's construction work is in the pipeline.

"On top of that, they offered to build an Islamic centre that goes with a mosque, a school and shops and we have in fact given land to that effect, what delayed most of the projects according to Sheikh Hamdi was the covid-19 pandemic but since it has now subsided, I believe activities will get underway".

He said QC has also taken a look at the site where a six hundred capacity proposed school nursing and midwifery is to built in Gombe.

He stressed that one of the challenges the state is containing with in the health sector has to do with manpower gap which his administration is doing everything necessary to address through some initiatives and collaborations such as the one with QC.

Governor Inuwa Yahaya equally told the gathering that the Qatar Charity foundation has also agreed to construct 120 boreholes across the state with some of them being solar powered and having the capacity of 20 thousand litres of water.

"They've gone round, they've established the sites, they've gotten the coordinates and they are working assiduously to see that work starts almost immediately. So with that there is nothing for us to do than to express appreciation and to say please Sheikh as you have accepted to work with us, I have offered to give a space for you to establish a branch in Gombe for ease of your operations".

Governor Inuwa Yahaya expressed the hope that citizens of the country can imbibe the spirit of reaching out to the poor and the needy in the society, describing the Qatar Charity as a humanitarian organisation who's impact is being felt right across the nation for close to 18 years.

He appreciated the Emir of Gombe, Dr. Abubakar Shehu Abubakar lll for hosting the visiting Country Representative of the Qatar Charity alongside his team to a colourful durbar at his palace.

"When you came I told his royal highness that I will like him to treat you to a durbar. I wanted a small one may be within the foyer of the palace but he said no and opted for grand one. We all watched it and it was so colourful. We saw candour, we saw horsemanship and we saw hospitality. So we have no words for His royal highness than to say thank you and thank you indeed for the honour".

The Country Representative of the Qatar Charity, Sheikh Hamdi El-sayed said for the past few days, his team had gone round to about seven local government areas of the state in company of some senior state government officials to identify areas of needs and possible intervention.

He explained that Qatar Charity offers support in critical sectors such as health, education, water supply, economic empowerment, social housing, food security and emergency relief, saying the organisation will strive to ensure that Gombe ranks top among states that benefit the most in QC's intervention programmes.

He expressed gratitude to Governor Inuwa Yahaya and the Emir of Gombe for the warm hospitality accorded to him and his team since arriving the state.

Impressed by the durbar procession, which was organised by the Emir of Gombe, Sheikh Hamdi said this was his first experience of such a traditional horsemanship in Nigeria, describing it as spectacular and splendid.

Earlier in an opening remarks, the Chief of Staff Government House, Alhaji Abubakar Inuwa Kari welcomed the Country Representative of the Qatar Charity to the state, assuring him and his team of an unforgettable experience.

Highlight of the gala night was cultural performance by different groups from across the state.
