When it comes to insulating your home, the attic is the first place to look at since most of the heat loss/gain happens from the attic. Thankfully, most of the homes in Torrance have insulated attics. The reasons behind it are two – first, they are homeowners who are aware of the importance of attic insulation and two, getting professional help for installation is easy nowadays. There are a number of insulation contractors in Torrance who would help you with the job. Now, there are many homes that have loose fill insulation in their attics. Like everything else in your home, loose fill insulation also has a limited life. So, when it has got past its prime, you would need to remove it. In the following post, we are going to take a look at how you can remove loose fill insulation from your attic.

So, without much further ado, let’s start.

STEP 1: Test for Asbestos: If your insulation is old, then chances are it contains asbestos. Most old homes in Torrance, just like a lot of other places in America, have asbestos in the insulation. This could be potentially dangerous for you and your family. So, get an asbestos test kit and test for asbestos. If it’s positive, then you should not proceed further yourself. Get in touch with a professional for insulation removal in Torrance and get their help to remove the insulation.

STEP 2: Get the Equipment: You would need to invest in getting the right equipment. Think your home vacuum cleaner is enough to remove your insulation? Well, it is not that easy. You would need to have a high-power vacuum to remove it the right way. At the same point of time, you need to have protective equipment, especially the following:

1. Protective clothing
2. Eye glasses
3. Respirator masks
4. Gloves
5. Shoes

STEP 3: Space the Area: You should ensure that the attic is properly spaced out. Make sure that you have closed the door and seal it properly by placing a plastic sheet over it and secure it with a good quality tape. To make the area more accessible, place large 6-inch planks through the beams.

It would also be a good idea to put a large tarp on the area where you would be keeping the bags

STEP 4: Begin the Work: When you are ready to vacuum the joists, you should start at the end and then move towards the exit of the attic. It should not get caught in the corner when stirring the air or damaged insulation or any rodent faces.

Well, the process needs to be executed with care and efficiency. So, if you are not feeling confident about it, then you can take the help of professional insulation contractors. There are a number of good ones here in Torrance. Make the right decisions and ensure complete safety and comfort.
