Over 152m Children Still Engage In Child Labour, Says ILO by Olafran6(m): 12:21pm On Jan 26, 2021
International Labour Organization (ILO) has said that child labour decreased by 38 per cent in the last decade, but declared that 152 million children are still affected.

According to ILO Director-General, Guy Ryder in a statement, COVID-19 pandemic has considerably worsened the situation, while calling for a joint and decisive action to reverse the trend.

The statement also revealed that the ILO in collaboration with the Alliance 8.7 Global Partnership will be launching the International Year for the Elimination of Child Labour to encourage legislative and practical actions to eradicate child labour worldwide.

It added that the international year was unanimously adopted in a UN General Assembly resolution in 2019, with the main aim of urging governments to do what is necessary to achieve Target 8.7 of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
