Herdsmen Crisis: Why Tinubu Is Afraid To Speak Against Buhari by Basoenewokoma(m): 12:56pm On Jan 27, 2021
A leader of the Yoruba socio-political group, Afenifere, Chief Ayo Adebanjo, says a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, Bola Tinubu, is afraid to speak on the Fulani herdsmen crisis in parts of the South-West region because he does not want to offend the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.).

Adebanjo spoke on a PUNCH Online interview programme, The Roundtable.

According to him, Tinubu has not condemned the attacks by Fulani herdsmen against the Yoruba people because of his presidential ambition in 2023.

The Afenifere chieftain said Tinubu believes that Buhari will help become the next president of the country.

Of late, Fulani herdsmen have been accused of perpetrating crimes ranging from kidnappings, killings, rape to invasion of farmlands with their cattle in the South-West region especially in Oyo, Ondo, Ekiti and Ogun States.

Adebanjo said instead of Buhari to protect all Nigerians, he has taken to defending the Fulani herdsmen despite sundry evidence that they are culpable of the heinous crimes.

“I don’t buy the propaganda of the Buhari government that how do you know they are Fulani? And when they are caught, they will say, they are foreign Fulani. If you are a competent defender of the Nigerian people, the Fulani herdsmen won’t be committing all forms of atrocities unabated,” he said.

Is Tinubu the only person in Nigeria? Must he speak on every issue? Are we looking for solution or cheap talk?

See, anybody can talk without anything getting done. What we want in the south west is peace and not talking to the gallery. Efforts are being made underground to resolve all issues and restore peace. That is what really matters.

Tinubu doesn’t need to talk to satisfy haters baying for his blood. “Oju l’agba nya, agba okin y’enu”. He won’t give you what you want. Go and tell Peter Obi to talk about the killing in Orlu and leave Tinubu alone.

I also find it curious that the same people that never pass up any opportunity to remind us that Tinubu has been rendered a political orphan and has become useless in the scheme of things under this administration, are yet again bleating like sheep all over social media, taunting him to 'soro soke', not because they are sincere in their desire to hear what he has to say o, but rather to find yet another opportunity to weaponize his own statement against him, regardless of what it is he has to say.

But I am glad that he isn't falling for their bait. Their hope is that he would say something inflammatory that can be used as an excuse to further heat up the polity. But they will continue to fail in their expectations.

100% of the people asking why Tinubu isn't speaking already know the exact reason he isn't speaking; it's common sense which even a toddler can discern. Tinubu speaking or not wouldn't change the situation on ground, it would only destroy whatever is left of his political ambition. There are tens of thousands of others who can speak at times like this.

100% of those asking why Tinubu isn't speaking and urging him to speak up are actually his sworn enemies, people who hate him to the core and are desperate to see him buried.
