Abba Moro, Senator representing Benue South Senatorial District, has called for the unconstitutional release of Elijah Odeh, a young barber held in Kano State over hairstyle alleged to be offensive to Islam.

Odeh was apprehended over claims that the haircut was anti-Islam and insulting to Prophet Mohammed.

Odeh hails from Adum East, in Obi Local Government Area of Benue State.

The barber who is being currently tried in Gyadi-Gyadi Magistrate Court sitting in Kano State, has been denied bail despite intervention by the Governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom, and his Kano State counterpart, Abdullahi Ganduje.

However, Senator Moro said the arrest and continued incarceration of the young man was “unacceptable, unconstitutional and an infringement on his rights to live and do business in any part of the country without molestation and harassment.

He said “no harm must come to him.”

Moro’s call was contained in a statement signed by his spokesman, Emmanuel Eche-Ofun John, his Special Adviser on New Media.

“The Comrade-Senator says none of his constituents will suffer unjustly anywhere, as long as he’s their Senator, and promises to follow up on this case, with all the seriousness it deserves, until justice is gotten for Elijah, who he believes has done nothing wrong in being creative and innovative,” the statement added.
