Are you looking to change your career and earn up to £40,000 per year? Which is ₦ 20737390 per year. Then you should definitely consider a HGV driver career in the UK. With over 50,000 driver shortage UK is struggling to meet its logistical needs. After Brexit a lot of employers have now considered the option of giving visa to foreign nationals if you’re willing to work hard and earn your living as a hgv driver in the UK.

Step 1 start searching for employers on websites like indeed, total jobs and monster. Prepare your CV and approach them to become an HGV driver. To start with you need to have a Valid Car licence (you will need to convert that car licence to UK car licence on your arrival as it’s the first basic requirements to become a HGV driver).

The heavy goods vehicle HGV driver training is a prerequisite for obtaining an HGV driver license. However, to obtain the HGV Class 1 license, you need to obtain your class 2 licence first.

Here are the steps you need to follow to get your licence.

MEDICALS
The medical examination usually takes no longer than 30 minutes. As you understand, you will be in charge of a very large vehicle and have to be fit to drive to keep you and other pedestrians safe. The examination covers eyesight, psychiatric illness, diabetes, blood pressure, alcohol intake and cardiac problems.

THEORY
This is in two parts. First, a multiple-choice test that assesses the overall driving aptitude and knowledge of the candidate. The second is the hazard perception test where the candidate is shown a series of video clips to spot hazards.

PRACTICAL AND CPC
The Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) is a basic qualification required to train as an HGV driver. It is an essential document that a driver must possess at all times when on the road driving.
For the practical test, you will be questioned on vehicle safety and assessed on your practical ability to drive an HGV in a variety of conditions. This test lasts for an average of 90minutes. Once you have passed both the practical and theory test, you will have your HGV Class 2 licence.

UPGRADE TO CLASS 1
Candidates usually do not go through the theory test they have cleared during the earlier driver license test. So, to upgrade your HGV driving license to a higher category (which is the HGV Class 1 license in this case), you will have to clear the additional practical test for that category.

Most companies will either voucher you for the training or will ask you to get your licence to get the job. Based on where you will arrive in the UK, HGVT is one of the UK’s largest HGV training provider with over 60+ centres where you can get your training.
