COVID-19 2nd wave: Edo govt records 25 new cases as health workers infection rise to 269

Edo State has recorded 25 new cases and one more death from coronavirus (COVID-19) as health workers infection in the second wave of the pandemic reached 269.

The State COVID-19 Incident Manager, Dr. Andrew Obi, disclosed this during a virtual meeting of the State COVID-19 Taskforce, chaired by the state governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki.

Obi noted that the state also recorded 12 recoveries with 752 active cases, reassuring that the state government is taking serious steps to contain the pandemic and protect the people.

According to him, “Edo State in the last 24 hours, recorded 25 new cases, 12 recoveries and one more death from COVID-19, bringing the total number of deaths in the second wave of the pandemic to 37.

“15 of the newly confirmed cases were reported from Edo Specialist Hospital laboratory while the remaining nine cases were reported at Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital (ISTH) laboratory.

“We now have 269 health workers infected with the virus and 752 active cases that are being treated at various isolation and treatment centres in the state.”

The Incident Manager who lamented the spike in community spread of the virus in the state, urged residents to be cautious and comply with all health and safety protocols against the spread of the disease.

He noted that Edo has continued to record progressive increase in the number of confirmed cases as community transmission of the second wave of the pandemic in the state is now at 90.4 percent.
